Humboldt State Computer Science

Hey I have narrowed my colleges down to two options: sac or Humboldt. Initially I was going to go with sac because I thought they had better programs but it sounds like their computer science program is not actually that good. I like the feel and area of Humboldt much more. For anyone going to Humboldt, what is the computer science program like?

Sac state’s CS program is ABET accredited although not as important to CS vs. Civil Engineering. ABET accreditation is an important sign that a program meets quality standards involving the breadth and depth of an engineering education, that the program has facilities, faculty, and support that allow them to provide strong learning experiences, and that graduates of the program have learned skills in appropriate areas and are building successful careers.
Not sure what you heard about Sac stats program, but Humboldt is not known for the Engineering/CS programs, only one Engineering program is ABET accredited (Environmental) so I would do a side by side comparison of the curriculums between the two schools.

not sure where you got that impression, Sac has a solid CS program - that doesn’t mean Humboldt is the wrong school for you. It is a pretty unique place. Have you been there?.

CSUSac upper level CS offerings are much more extensive than those at HSU:

I live in the Bay Area and have worked with CS grads from Sac. State. Their CS program is perfectly fine.

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone with a CS degree from Humboldt State.

Focusing solely on the computer sci programs, Sac State is the clear choice. Humbolt’s dept has a total of 4 assoc profs and one prof. Compare to 25 full time faculty at Sac State. Given the location of Humbolt, I’d guess the adjunct lecturer talent pool is quite shallow as well.

However, if you like Humbolt and its culture then maybe its for you. But know that the comp sci dept is quite limited.
