Humcore vs Writing 39 Series

I know humcore fulfills more breadths... but is it difficult compared to writing 39 b/c.... BTW: I dislike literature.... so can I use sparknotes in college?

take hum core...you wont regret it. It gives you a ton of flexibility in college to take easier classes, lighter quarters, and possibly graduate earlier.

Case in point, I had to take 7 classes to fulfill the requirements the 3 class series of hum core.

I second the take hum core motion. You might not like this advice while you're taking hum core but you'll thank us later.

I think i'm gonna take some community college courses to get rid of breath IV... and i'll take VII A and the writing 39 series at Irvine... I looked at the syllabus for humcore... are u f-n kidding me... all those books.... hell no... :-)

as one Female UCI student(Class 2007) said:
the School of Humanities is excellent. They put you through a rigorous year-long Humanities Core Course, which you'll hate as you're doing the many required readings, but at the end of the year you'll be thankful because the smaller discussion sections have awesome teachers (yes, even the TAs) who are always willing to help.

Like I said, it'll be worth it in the end and I believe that ultimately you'll end up doing less work. It gets rid of lots of breadth. Also, it probably shouldn't really be 8 units, more than 4, but I wouldn't say it's twice the work of a normal class. You'll thank me later.

College ain't supposed to be easy. Geez, you're paying all that money, you might as well learn something.

Humcore was hard but definitely worth taking. And I'm not just talking about all of the breadth requirements it fulfills. It was worth taking because it made me a much better writer and much better at critical thinking, which is something you need no matter what your major is.

Step up to the plate and take humanities.

that's the third UCI student who recommends it. Just take it ;).

Here's a warning about Sparknotes and Cliffs Notes and things like that:

Many of the humanities and writing professors make you submit your papers and assignments to turnitin.com, which will take your paper and compare it to a database of millions of other papers, articles, books, etc. If your paper is too similar to another paper in the database, a red flag will be raised and you can get caught if you did indeed plagarize.

Not that any of you plan to cheat, but just a word of warning.

Just man up people.

Wow... i'm not so sure what to do... is the 39 series hard too... like where can I find this stuff out.

Recent alum here..... Humanities Core can be a drag, but well worth it. And yes, humanities department is excellent.

Could someone comment on the difficulty in getting an A in the class. Biological Science major here, so I'm looking out for my ability to get into a top medical school.

damn i aint taking humcore

Do you get to pick the teacher of humcore discussions?? any recommendations??

Yea you get to pick the teacher. Pick Dr. Hartz if you can, I think she's the writing director and she is really good at explaining the materials. Also, her room is in the computer lab, so you can type your midterm/final

I'm scared of humcore, but I'm gonna take it I think...

;)

at least you're not taking honors humcore; I'm freaking out already =</p>
