Hey everyone. Just wondering who else applied for this. Letters for finalists should be coming soon!!

I applied and am also awaiting the decision!! Last year the emails were sent out exactly one month away from the interview date, and this year’s interview date is March 23, so I figure they come out on Feb 23. The date is a day away from my birthday so hopefully I get a late birthday present Haha good luck to you and all the other applicants!!

How did you get the interview date?

The interview date is on the SMU website. [2011-2012 Calendar - Hunt Leadership Scholars Program - SMU](http://smu.edu/hunt/Calendar_2011-2012.asp)

I applied, too – praying for an interview. Being broke and wanting to go to SMU… worst joke ever! I wonder how many applied, in the past something like 400 students applied.

Anyone hear back yet?

No word yet.

I just got the e-mail. I’m a finalist!

AJCOLLEGEBOUND: CONGRATS! what state are you in?

im in california

My daughter received an email yesterday saying she was a finalist. We are also in CA.

ok, well I live in Dallas so I hope they will send me an e-mai later because I am so close and I do not have to make any travel plans

Yes, the email says that it is just to give advance notice for us to make travel plans and that the actual invite is being mailed.

Does anyone know if this scholarship replaces all other scholarships already given (Founders and Cox), or do you get to keep the Cox scholarship too?

the Hunts is a non-stackable scholarship as far as I know. I spoke with my counselor and that is what she said.

From the financial aid website, it appears National Merit scholarships are stackable as long as all scholarships do not exceed full tuition and fees:

National Merit and National Achievement Scholarships
SMU provides a scholarship of up to $5,000 annually for students who have been named National Merit or Achievement Finalists. To qualify, students must designate SMU as their first choice school with the National Merit Corporation by the final deadline set by National Merit. In addition, the student must provide their award letter from National Merit to the SMU Financial Aid Office.

The scholarship will be awarded for 8 standard terms or until graduation, whichever comes first, as long as the student maintains full-time enrollment status each semester and a 3.000 SMU cumulative GPA. For any recipient whose SMU cumulative GPA falls below 3.000, the SMU Financial Aid Office will review the students eligibility for continuation of the award.

If the student receives a corporate or one-time National Merit Corporation award, SMU will supplement any smaller corporate or one-time National Merit Corporation award up to a total of $5000 annually.

This scholarship may be combined with other scholarship or grant aid from SMU but in no case can the combination of institutional aid exceed Tuition and Fees for that academic year.

Those finalists who do not receive other academic scholarships from SMU will receive a total of $5,000 annually in National Merit or Achievement scholarship from all sources.

Thanks for both of your replies. Unfortunately she is not a NMF, so that doesn’t apply. The Hunt Scholarship covers the difference between the leading in-state tuition and fees, which is about $14,000 for us in CA (I think), plus room and board, so there are still a lot of bills to pay. It really sounds like a terrific program regardless. It would be great if she is fortunate to get the Hunt Scholarship and get to keep her Cox scholarship too. Definately not complaining though. :)

I also live in California. So if we did not receive an email should we assume that we are not a finalist?

has anyone heard back yet?

Nothing here (in Houston)

Haven’t heard either (Dallas area).
