I am most likely going to attend Hunter in NYC but I am scared about my food situation. I do not wan tto gain weigh tor become very unhealthy as in underweight due to me not having time to cook. Plus I am not from New York so it is going to take time for me to adjust and I am vegetarian so it is very difficult fo rme to think of things to eat sometimes....anyone have advice

I went to Hunter for a few semesters and let me tell you, the food situation is really bad. I’m not a vegetarian, but meal plan or not, the food’s pretty gross!

Really though you’re not going to have any problems. They don’t have a huge selection of fresh fruit, usually just apples or bananas or oranges, but they have pre-packed veggie sticks, yogurt, cheeses, etc. They also sometimes have garden burgers at the grill, and there’s always cheese pizza. Plus you can get wraps, some of those are vegetarian/tofu-related. In the morning you can get eggs, toast, bagels, etc.

But think about it: you’re going to be in NYC. Most of the students I saw at Hunter just went into the surrounding neighborhood for food. You just need to do your research, find local restaurants/diners that have vegetarian options. Buy your own food and bring it with you. Hunter is primarily a commuter school, I didn’t even realize they had a meal plan. People are always in the cafeteria, but it’s small, nothing like a big university’s dining hall with pre-planned meals. People usually just stop in there for quick snacks in between classes.

You take the subway to Whole Foods and the Trader Joes by Union Square to load up on vegetarian groceries.
You can control how much you spend and what you eat.
Time to take care of your own needs.

Become an omnivore.

ya right!!! you are so rude. Becoming vegetarian has cured my anxiety attacks you morron!!!
