This year is going to be just as competitive as ever and I was wondering what languages ppl are tending to shoot for. Hmm Hmm Hmm and does anyone know if it’s allowed to submit your AP score to substitute for SAT2 language??

I probably will apply in Spanish

can people please post where they're from, what their stats are, target language, interests, etc.

every year the top two languages seem to be spanish and chinese...from what ive heard from people in admissions going for another language definitely boosts your chances as they cap the number of people for each language.

Would priar experience in a semi-obscure language (Russian) help with admissions to the program or is experience not really considered.

What are the Huntsman approved (target) languages?

Arabic
Chinese (Mandarin)
French
German
Hindi
Italian
Japanese
Korean
Portugese
Russian
Spanish

So, to answer your question nyjeff06, yes, Russian counts.

is huntsman restricted to people fluent in one of the target languages?

Mandarin is my target language.

You do not have to be fluent. An SAT II score in the high 600s for the language will generally qualify you.

can everyone please post their SAT scores, GPA, where they're from, interests for concentrations/study abroads, etc.

Chatoic are you a native chinese speaker?

my French SAT II was 650.going to take it again
I am a native traditional Chinese reader, speaking Cantonese only.Does it count or just Mandarin only.Surely one of the linked university is Chinese U of Hong Kong, where the language of instruction is English and Cantonese, where Wharton alumni flourishes in such firms as Citibank,Goldman Sachs(hong kong branches)

I believe, or so it says on the huntsman website that only mandarin is taught. Also the universities that you can attend include Beida, Tsinghua, and Fudan. Also you can go to one university in taiwan but i do not believe that Hong Kong university is one of them.

bump .

I'm applying for German. I have an AP score of 5 but haven't taken the SAT.

does penn use an informal quota system to fill language slots at huntsmen?

did you not read the above posts?

AS WAS PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED ABOVE...huntsman uses a quota system for each language...that's why it's better to apply not using spanish or mandarin as the overwhelming majority of applicants have these 2 as targets.

Me bad.Chinese U of HongKong only qualifies as a business and liberal arts credit for Wharton, not the Huntsman program.Does anybody know whether Huntsman will make exception, since it is already accepted by Wharton ?

From the Wharton Site:
Hong Kong, China: Wharton students may attend Chinese University of Hong Kong. Students will be offered on-campus student housing and may register for both business and liberal arts classes. Courses are conducted in English, with some classes available in Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese

yo bern- im sorry you feel like being a huge tool.

i will be applying to huntsman arabic, but is there a way you can do more than one language once in the program? i realize you have to pick one for your concentration but is it possible to take more than one language simultaneously or is that a logistical nightmare courses-wise?
