Huntsman language subject test?

What would be considered an average score for the language test and what would be low?
I took the november test and I.am.shocked. how bad I did on it. Would it hurt my chances to send a low score now and retake it in january for improved score? I asked adcoms they said they accept january scores, but would it be a disadvantage that I'm taking it then when I've already sent a low score? Should I even send this score right now?

u mean a sat 2 test? what did u get. it probably isnt thatttt low.

we’re talking 580 here D: runs and hides

go for it in jan! no doubt in my head!!!

but u have to send this score even if u get 800 in jan. ALL sat 2 scores go. so it may still look bad. but do it again. which lang is it for anyways?

german, which I’ve been studying over 4 years - another thing to make me look just downright dumb (over four years of studying the language and I am under 600???)

I know how you feel. I’m in german 5 now and the test is pretty brutal-especially the reading passages. I took 3 subject tests last june but felt sick and left after doing 15ish questions on the german test and got a 450. so basically i answered like 15 questions and left the rest blank. I didn’t know that you could just erase them all and get the score for that test omitted. so i feel you. language tests suck.

not to mention the curve being harsher on language tests because of all the natives that are taking them… :(

is it required to take a SAT subject language test?

nope. like i dont have one for my language so it cant be a requirement. though it might be beneficial.!

Which language did you apply with akkipenn?

hindi bro.

when they ask us to describe the extent of our study of that language, can I just put, “Fluent native speaker” ??

They say that if you use your native language it defeats the purpose of the program  But if you are a native speaker than thats probably the best description :)

no i think u have to put the no. of years that u studied it and in what curriculum. thats what i did.

What do you guys think is the best way to prepare for a language test? Idk if I should just watch TV shows or go through my old notebooks or get one of those Subject test prep books in the language?

so, if I don’t know any other languages apart from English and my native language, I shouldn’t be applying to Huntsman?

dude dont feel bad at all. im a NATIVE spanish speaker and i got 760…they curve those things like crazy. the weird thing is my grammar in spanish is otherwise perfect; my theory is that i’ve grown up speaking a type of spanish that differs a bit from “book spanish” when it comes to conjugation of verbs. not that i conjugate them differently, it’s just that i might say it in a different way. ex: i rarely use future subjunctive, and it appeared loads on the test. threw me way off.

Nelesy,

I think the best way to prepare for the language tests is with the prep book. My guess is that TV is worse than useless, and your notes are probably too specific. Only the prep book will give you practice in the EXACT THING you need to get good at (i.e., taking the test!)

;-)

good luck and don’t worry. German is probably one of their less common applicant languages so you may be judged less harshly.

FBBG Thanks! I really hope I pull off a better score in january! Cause with the november one I might as well reject myself from the program haha
