Huntsman Program: Must Demonstrate "Proficiency" in Foreign Language

I know the Penn Huntsman Program (Wharton and CAS) require the applicant to know a different language, but how fluent does the applicant have to be? I can speak a different language (Chinese) colloquially, but I have trouble understanding, say, the Chinese news stations. I can read a little.

Can someone help clarify the necessary caliber of demonstrated "proficiency?"

Admissions rep once told me that SATII or AP scores can be used to demonstrate proficiency.

Test scores. If your language doesn't have a test, Penn has their own tests.

So if didn't take the SATII in Chinese or AP Chinese, Penn will give me its own test? What if I don't pass with flying colors? Could Penn rescind my acceptance (hypothetically speaking that I got accepted)?

I think Penn has special tests only for languages not tested by SATIIs and APs
like...hindi, russian, etc.

and it would only be natural for them to rescind your acceptance if you don't pass...i mean, it's part of the program requirements...45 spots that's hardcore.

I'm in the same bind with Hindi. I don't think I would fare too well on the written portion.

If they rescind your acceptance based on the test, you can still matriculate into Wharton, right?

i'm wondering that too..

i'm pretty sure they won't accept you until you pass that test...
so you either take the subject test or huntsman's Arabic, Hindi, Portuguese, and Russian.
isn't it too late at this point since language subj tests were in november?
unless you guys are juniors...

So I shouldn't even apply to huntsmans and waste my time writing the extra essay if I haven't taken the subject test in chinese?

Anything is possible, but all of the members of the huntsman program that I've met are fluent in multiple languages. My friend applying to the Huntsman program is fluent in Russian Ukranian and Spanish plus is proficient at the AP level in French.

This isn't to dissuade you from applying, but you should think about what your strengths as an applicant are and whether or not you are a fit for Huntsman.
