Huntsman Qualifications??

I am a rising senior and I am thinking of applying to Huntsman. It says on the website that it is highly recommended that applicants take the Math Level 2 but I am an above average math student but I don't see myself scoring higher than the low 700's if even that high. I am really good at Spanish and French and have very good test scores in both subjects. I also took AB Calc this year and scored a 4 on the exam, if that could help for math. I am black if anyone is going to ask...

If you’re black, then take the Math II, you’ll be fine with low 700s b/c of affirmative action. You’ll need some real good ECs to get into Huntsman though.

My twin sister was accepted to Wharton early decision last fall (class of 2012), but not Huntsman. She had pretty good tests scores (34 ACT, mid-700 SAT sections, and 790 Spanish subject test). I’m not sure about the Math 2, but she ended up scoring higher than she thought she would. I would take the Math 2 for sure. She had great ECs but unfortunately we live in the rural midwest, so not that many clubs/camps/opportunities for young aspiring international businesswoman…but I’m sure the admissions council took this into consideration. We are also legacies (about 5 family members have attended) so I don’t know how much that helped her get into Wharton, I’m guessing not a lot. My sister ended up deferring admission for a year to take a gap year (working with the City Year AmeriCorps program in LA, good for Spanish practice) and she may reapply to Huntsman this fall just for kicks, but you’ll probably end up meeting her at some point either way–Wharton’s not that big.
Either way, getting into a great school like Wharton is great enough of an accomplishment–my sister hardly noticed that her acceptance letter didn’t mention Huntsman, it’s really just icing on top of a really great cake, er school. Your race may give you an advantage, maybe not. I like to not be too paranoid about affirmative action. For all the hype it gets, it really has helped Caucasian women the most out of any group, which is interesting.
I hope this just helped give a small anecdotal glimpse–good luck this fall, and please please remember that everything will work itself out in the end, or you will drive yourself insane with stress this fall. :)

If you are truly an “above average” math students you should be able to score in the high 700s. How do you determine your above average status? And if you really are that good at math, why don’t you think you will score well?

high 700’s implies that you are a really good math student to me, the average math level 2 is 640 something. Slightly above that is high 600’s low 700’s.

math II is a how-well-do-you-know-how-to-use-your-calculator test. id say im a good math student: 5 on AP Calc BC, always 95+ in any math class i took, but im not math genius and will hopefully not have to take about Diff Eqs in college.

i got a 790 on the test. it has a very kind curve and it’s really about how you know how to use your Ti-89

I think I know how to use my TI-89 pretty well after a year of calc…so I’m going to begin studying for it and I’ll take it in the fall and apply to Penn RD.

Forget the courses for a second- the best way to stand out in a Huntsman application is to show you have interest in international business- by doing something international (business or not) before your apply.
