I'm considering applying to the Huntsman program and just have a question regarding the proficiency test in Hindi. I can speak and write fluently Urdu, and because Hindi and Urdu are similarly spoken, I can speak Hindi as well, but I can't read or write Hindi. Is it still possible to apply under the Huntsman program?

well... i'm not familiar with the languages, but the idea of fluency is that in the program you spend time in a hindi-speaking school with other fluent students. if you can handle classes like that, then you could apply.

how similar are the two languages? if they are similar enough that you will pass the test (sorry, but I can't decide this for you), then go for it.

better still - call them up and ask.

huntsman does not require fluency, only proficiency. that being said, since a hindi SAT II test does not exist, the huntsman program will send you a hindi test if they determine you to be a qualified candidate. from previous posters, i believe the test has a speaking, writing, and reading component, although i'm not certain because i did not receive a test while my application was being evaluated. and i definitely second annabell's recommedation to call the program and ask--they're very nice and willing to answer any other questions.
