Huntsman

I don't believe the figure has been released on the internet but does anyone have an idea as to how many people apply to huntsman every year? I would also like to know my chances as well. I have a very strong foreign language background: by the time i graduate I'll have taken 4 years of Spanish in high school (including AP Spanish), 2 years of French (French I + French III--skipped French II), and 2 years of Latin. I have won best Latin student and ranked nationally for all three languages' national tests. I have all A's in my foreign language classes. My math grades are a little iffy, though. I have of course taken the most challenging classes offered, but I have done somewhat mediocre when it comes to Wharton or Huntsman standards. I have A-'s since 9th grade up 'til my junior year now. Next year I will be taking BC Calc, and hopefully I will pull off at least an A- in that.

I have taken humanitarian trips around the world, and I also have had the opportunity to be a club leader in certain internationally based clubs in my school.

So far, I have taken the SAT once, and my overall score was a 2200 and my math score was a 740. I plan to take it again and do better on the math section.

I will take the SAT IIs in Math II and Spanish next year--hopefully scoring above a 700 in both.

So far... how are my chances? I am planning to apply ED by the way.

Huntsman is a crap shot for anybody applying. A really strong essay is essential. Stress your interest in business, not just languages.

Thank you for your input. Should I base much of my essay on how to combine language and business or should that be a somewhat minor point?

You should speak from the heart. I would think you would want to talk about your interest in international business (working for a multi-national corp or in trade politics?) and your love for and ability with foreign languages/cultures.

You should definitely search old Huntman threads and try to reach out to students currently in the program. This is such a specialized program that you should try to find out if it is right for you before applying.

BTW, Georgetown’s SFS program may also be of interest to you.

Thanks, this sounds great. I will definitely form some form of communication with myself and some students in Huntsman. I want to know their true thoughts on the program before applying and while attending.

I was considering Georgetown, but I felt a little distanced there because religion and theology are really not my things. I know they have a place for everyone from every background, but I just didn’t feel too comfortable.

Do you know of any other programs similar to Huntsman?

Bump
Does anyone know of any other program similar to the Huntsman program at Penn?

I think around 500-600 apply for around 40 spots. Emphasis on foreign languages and leadership, I believe (plus everything else).

Where’d you get that info?
