Looks like a very bad storm at the least for our Tulane students, and at the most a hurricane. I think Wednesday is the 7th anniversary of Katrina. Please share information about the storm, possible evacuation etc. My DD is possibly heading to Houston with three friends.

My D would go to Jackson MS with someone from the chapel she attends. The latter has family there.

It is looking like evacuation is a distinct possibility, isn’t it.

YEs, afraid so. Tulane enrgency says they will update at 4:30 PM

“Tulane will be open Mon. We anticipate closing Tues-Wed and sheltering in place, but are monitoring the storm. Visit emergency.tulane.edu”

Here is the latest Emergency Notice from Tulane at 9:30 PM this evening:
August 26, 2012, 9:30 p.m.

The most recent update from the university’s weather monitoring service reports that there is still uncertainty regarding the track and strength of Isaac, though landfall along the Louisiana coast is looking more likely.

We will open a call center for parents and students tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. The contact number is 504-247-1340.

All students who live on campus will shelter in place at the university. They will receive instructions from the resident advisors tomorrow morning. All off-campus students should immediately review their hurricane plans and decide where they will locate for the storm. Any student needing assistance should call 504-247-1340.

Classes will be held on Monday, but any student who leaves the city due to concerns about the storm will not receive any academic penalties for missing class and will have the opportunity to make up missed work.

All employees should report to work on Monday and follow their departmental emergency plans as they prepare their offices for the approach of Isaac. The university does anticipate closing on Tuesday and Wednesday, given current information about the direction of the storm.

For those students who want to leave the city before the arrival of the storm, the university will provide shuttle service to the airport starting Monday morning. Shuttles will leave from Bruff Commons at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

We anticipate resuming normal operations on Thursday but we encourage everyone to follow our updates as the situation may change.

The next update will be at 8 a.m.

Here’s the current hurricane track:

[Tropical Storm ISAAC](<a href=“REMNANTS OF CINDY”>REMNANTS OF CINDY)

Luckily Isaac isn’t supposed to become more than a category 1 or 2. If the track is right NOLA gets the worst of it being center-east of the direct center. A few kids on my floor are evacuating, and a bunch of parents’ flights have been canceled, but other than that everyone seems pretty calm about it.

Most people I know have evacuated at this point. Tulane is supposedly going to post another update on the emergency page this morning. Stay safe!

Here’s the AM update from Tulane:

August 27, 2012, 8 a.m.

The latest update from Tulane’s weather service indicates promising trends for the New Orleans area regarding lower winds and rainfall associated with Isaac. The service reports that the storm is predicted to make landfall along the southeast Louisiana coast, most likely as a Category 1 storm. According to the service, the storm differs from Katrina in that is far weaker and is approaching New Orleans from a different angle.

At this time rainfall is predicted to be 5-10 inches from Tuesday through Wednesday and peak winds will affect our area from 7-10 p.m. Tuesday.

All classes that start at 5 p.m. or later today are cancelled. All other Monday classes will keep to their regular schedules.

The university will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

We anticipate limited availability of services on campus for students on Tuesday and Wednesday. Further information with respect to these services will be available later today.

The student call center opens at 8:30. The number is 504-247-1340.

Airport shuttles begin at 9 a.m. and will also leave at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

The next update will be at 4 p.m."

They are sheltering students living in Aron at the Hertz Center. Needless to say, my suitemates and I are glad we left last night! Best wishes to all.

DD just moved into apartment on Broadway last week. Now on a plane headed home to NYC. Hoping apartment and car are there when she returns.

Does anyone know if classes will be held on Thursday and Friday this week? Also are they holding classes on Labor Day?

Yes for Thursday and Friday unless the storm freakishly turns out to do more damage than currently anticipated. No to Labor Day, I believe that is a service day for Tulane, traditionally.

My daughter and her roommates have decided not to leave. She had been considering that as an option until this morning. They would have gone to her one roommate’s house in Houston. But after viewing the weather predictions/Tulane reports, felt that staying put was a more feasible option, and would not jeopardize safety. They have an apartment in a house on Audubon Street. My daughter is familiar with hurricanes and preparedness. We have dealt with them before on the Outer Banks in Noth Carolina.

I wish for a quick passage of the storm and pray for the safety of the people of
New Orleans!

I will keep my fingers crossed that Issac won’t cause much problem for NOLA and Tulane. This reminds me of 2008 that, a week after we dropped off our son, he came home due to hurricane evaluation…It turned out to be a non-event and I hope this one will be the same. Stay safe!

S2 is studying abroad and is annoyed that he is missing out on the storm. I told him his parents are quite happy he is where he is.

Keep the kids on campus but cancel classes for two days.

Hurricane Party!!!

Freshman son in Monroe is looking forward to lots of bonding time with his new dorm mates. We are assuming the administration would not do anything to jeopardize the kids’ safety. They are on 2 days of lockdown starting tonight. Im glad we sent him with a flashlight. What a way to start college,

If your kid doesn’t have an old school flashlight, tell them to download one of the iphone flashlight apps. They work great.

Great idea! Of course if they lose power, he won’t have use of his iPhone for long.

MomOf3- our lockdown doesn’t start until the hurricane arrives sometime tomorrow. We’re free to leave tonight.

And Monroe (as well as the other dorms) has a back up generator so power won’t be lost, at least for too long.

And for what it’s worth, I don’t see the school opening Thursday. The center of the hurricane isn’t supposed to be north of nola until 1pm Wednesday. I don’t see how they could open it up the next morning. This is according to noaa.gov btw

Haven’t heard from my s since last night. Holding my breath for the Tulane family
