hurting my brother's chances for college??

So the prompt for one esasy of University of washington is:

Tell us a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.

If i talked about how my brother got involved with marijuana and a bunch of other really bad stuff and talk about how i have had to grow from that as well, like maturing, growing independent, etc. would it hurt my brother's chances of getting accepted to that college next year? i have never had to give his name in my application and other details but I still want to be sure.

please reply ASAP

bumppppppp

…anyone?

If you finished your essay saying that your brother turned his life around, etc. then it MAY be okay. I still wouldn’t recommend it at all, especially if it painted your brother in a bad light and never said that he turned himself around.

I would not reccomend that

ahhh okayy:(

oh that makes sense, but this was definitely a story from my life. it was really tough to deal with. and it would be a story from the point of view of a bystander. from someone on the side, from someone that has to also deal with effects, but different ones.

but i understand that it is a touchy topic for a college essay

That story really belongs to your brother, and I think you’d better ask him for permission. If you’re hesitant to tell him you’re thinking of writing about it, you have your answer.

oh no i’ve asked him and he’s cool with it
