Any parents of students at Hutchins or alums with thoughts on this program at Sonoma State? My cub is interested and I'm wondering how it prepares students for grad school or a teaching credential and how it compares to traditional great books programs like St. John's.

Bump bump. Anyone?

I’m somewhat familiar with the program. Lots of my friends were in the Hutchins program.

Its primary focus is to prepare future teachers. It offers a program to graduate with a BA and a teaching credential in 4 years. Another difference is that it waives virtually all the GE requirements. Instead of taking four or five classes a semester, for the first two years students take one long course per semester.

I wouldn’t classify it as a great books major. There is a ton of reading and writing involved but it sorta had an artsy feel to it. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions I didn’t cover.
