Hutton Honors College Petition

I recently applied to IU. I have an ACT score of 34 and a weighted GPA of 3.830. In order to get into Hutton Honors College as a direct admit, you need an ACT score of 34 or above and a weighted GPA of 3.85 or above.

However, my unweighted GPA is 3.364. My grades were not great in the beginning of high school due to a lack of adequate treatment for my ADHD. Once I began receiving adequate treatment for my ADHD, my grades improved substantially and I began receiving mostly A’s. There is a substantial upwards trend on my transcript.

I really want to be a part of the Hutton Honors College if I attend IU. I plan on petitioning, but I’m worried that they will reject me due to the large discrepancy between my weighted and unweighted GPAs. How easy is it to get into HHC via petition? Has anyone tried to get in via petition and/or know of someone who has? Do you think I will get in via petition?

IU looks at weighted GPA so your 3.83 W puts you in good shape to be accepted by petition. Also your 34 ACT will help because they require a 32.

@iubfinance23 Is a 33 ACT with a 4.4 Weighted, 3.67 Unweighted guaranteed to your knowledge?

Also, how long are people waiting to hear acceptances. Applied 10/30 and haven’t heard anything. I thought it was like a week so just getting worried.

Yes a 33 w/ 4.4 GPA is an automatic acceptance into Hutton. IU always considers the highest GPA on your transcript, which is usually weighted. I applied 9/19 and didn’t get a response until 10/16

If you attend IU and seek special housing in the Honors housing secton, be sure to be strategic in housing selection. There is a widespread mold issue underway involving multiple freshman residences where mold has been found and many students have become very ill. Many have been disrupted and displaced, some having to move more than once in the past semester, to lounges ore temporary locations. More students are receiving notices this week that they must move because the mold counts in their rooms are so high the rooms are uninhabitable, this as finals are beginning. Be sure you know where Honors housing will be next year and if it is one of these impacted buildings. There are rooms where the mold spore counts keep increasing despite remediation efforts. Buildings impacted so far are Bocobo, Bryan, Bordner, Delgado, Dejoya, Crone - in the McNutt Quad area, Jenkinson, Shea, Martin, Magee and Harper in the Foster area, Boisen, Elkins, Raab in the Teter Quad area. Know where the LLCs are located next year. The Kelley LLC has been housed in the 3 of the McNutt buildings…not sure if it will be relocated next year. Online housing registration for current students looking for on campus housing next year has been shut down since October 15th while the school reassesses housing inventory for next year. Be especially careful if you have any underlying health issues, like allergies, asthma, Chron’s, or immuno-compromised issues. Best of luck!
