Hi
I got accepted to Hutton Honors College and I am currently in the process of ranking my dorm choices.
I REALLY want a single room, but from my understanding, if I want HRC, I will have to have a roommate.
Is HRC really worth it? It is that special and different?
thank you
bump!!!
@leggo2019 If you want to be placed in a specific dorm, then yes. You only get to pick your preferred neighborhood on the housing app, but the HRC for each neighborhood has a pre-assigned location. For example, my top preference is the Central HRC (Teter) and my second choice is the Southeast HRC (Forest). The Central HRC is especially tempting because the floors for honors students have semi-private restrooms, but some of the rest in Teter are community restrooms.
I’m not sure if any of the single dorms correspond to any of the HRCs or other Living Learning Communities, but if you want to participate in their events then I would consider it. From what I can tell it is just one way to be part of a smaller group on a big campus. If the HRC is not as important as important to you as having a single dorm, I’m sure you will still find a great community.
@indecisiveinfp7 are you going to IU ?
@leggo2019 I’m almost definitely going to Ball State or IU, but I’ve already paid the deposit for housing at IU just so I’m not last on the list!
@indecisiveinfp7 which major? I want to decide my housing soon haha
I actually applied undecided! But I am interested in education (School of Ed), arts administration (SPEA), and history and languages (Art/Sci). I WILL be minoring in dance. Besides the HRCs my third and fourth choices for housing are the Performing Arts LLC in Read and Civic Leaders in Briscoe. I know, I’m all over the place.
so your in Hutton Honors College?
I also read that Briscoe is a party dorm is it as bad as everyone else says?
@leggo2019, no, I am still a high school senior. I am not into partying but only put the Civic Leaders LLC as my last choice because I had a great conversation with a couple representatives from SPEA, but truth be told I would rather prefer to be placed in the Central or Southeast neighborhood because Briscoe and the Northwest in general are far away from most classes. While I have heard that the party people tend to flock to McNutt and Briscoe, I can’t tell you anything from personal experience.
Both of my kids lived in the Teter HRC floors. I would say it was worth it for both of them. The Teter HRC takes a trip every year at some point and does a few other things. They liked being around serious students that also liked to have fun and enjoyed all that IU offers. Just like in high school, there are a variety of interests among smart kids, the same is true in the Hutton HRC. Both of them, a male and a female, made life long friends on that floor. Oddly enough, both ended up rooming with their random roommates from freshman year all of the years they spent at IU.
