You might want to elaborate more on your passion for music when writing your application. I assume you will write your essay’s about violin. Good grades, but as you said you probably should retake the SAT. Also, why take Chinese for the SAT-2 if you took German throughout high school?

A problem, if you’re Asian, is that you play the violin. I’m not trying to be judgmental in any fashion; however colleges notice the common occurrence of Asians excelling in musical arts. However, if you elaborate, like mentioned above, this should be much of a factor at all.

Another aspect to consider is what your perspective major will be.

i’m guessing your asian, because 1) you play the violin 2) You got an 800 in Chinesse which colleges wont look at if that is your native language or you speak it fluently, and 3) you’re in math club. Retaking the SAT isn’t bad in your case, although you are already very high. But if your awards and recognitions for violin are that great and numerous, colleges will overlook the fact that you’re asian (i’m guessing, again), because that is a huge deal. make sure your essays are good, and you will definitely have a competitive chance.

haha thanks
yes, I’m Asian; I came from Taiwan end of my 7th grade year

Ok then…I’ll take 3 more subject tests this year anyway (USH, bio, physics)
For German, I heard that only native speakers do ok on sat 2 or ap…so I’m not going to take it and risk it

i dont mean any offense but you look like a general asian applicant (4.0, math, chinese, violin) - is there anything else that perhaps set you apart? if your violin awards are really impressive, colleges will probably overlook your apparent “asianness”

Of the schools you have listed, only JHU and Northwestern accepted more than 20% of their applicants. Harvard, Yale, Columbia, Princeton, MIT, Stanford, and Wharton all accepted less than 15%…And the vast majority of the kids that applied had GPAs, SATs, SAT2s, and ECs as strong as yours. Get the drift? All of these schools are extremely competitive and damned hard to get into. Now, that’s not to say you should not apply to a few of these schools. Your stats are competitive, but you also need to be realistic and understand that there is a strong possibility you won’t get in. The moral of all this - though I expect you’ve already thought about it - is to also apply to a 3 or 4 good, but somewhat less selective colleges, and apply to a few safeties as well.
