HYP v State School

Hey everyone, I'm applying to law school this year from a Harvard school with a 3.78ish gpa. I haven't taken the LSAT yet, but practice tests show a 175+. I'm white, and female.

My question is, will the fact that i went to Harvard rather than a state school help me in the admissions process? My dream law schools are Harvard and Stanford, both very competitive and my gpa is not in the top half. I have a couple of leadership positions, etc, but other than that, I'm nervous. what do you guys think?

What do I think? That you are a ■■■■■. A 3.78 is definitely in the top half of the Harvard College class. Moreover, anyone who really goes to Harvard would go look at the grids.

I think she meant HLS’s median accepted GPA being 3.88.

Oops, sorry, if that’s the case and she really is a Harvard student. Still, her pre-law adviser can give better advice and the grids will give her a better idea than anyone on this board can.

Also, OP, is that your LSAC GPA or just your unweighted GPA? It may or may not make a big difference.

Thanks for the responses - I should’ve been more specific, but I was referring to the top half of admitted HLS students. I know it’s a fine GPA at the college. It’s the LSAC GPA - I don’t think there’s a difference between the calculations.

Of course I’ve looked at the grids and everything, but with the exception of lawschoolnumbers there’s really no way to see the breakdown by type of school, and even at LSN, it’s pretty vague and hard to compile.

So, I guess you are a ■■■■■? The grids are specifically for Harvard College; your pre-law tutor has them.

Yeah, I’d forget Boalt Hall

just another state school, right?
