Very low SAT score.
And your EC don’t stand out for a Harvard/Stanford applicant.

Look into safeties.

Slim chances!!!

You have very good ECs, and a lot of of them at that. However, nothing stands out - and I know that at least Stanford places great importance on having an EC that really sets you apart… Your current SAT score is VERY low for those schools, but if you improve to a 2200+ that should definitely help you.

Lots of volunteer work is definitely a positive - although top schools see this on many strong applications, you could play it up if you are passionate about it.

Overall, I think your chances are iffy. If you get an absolutely fantastic SAT score and have an amazing application, we’ll see. But I’d make sure you have some match and safety schools that you would be happy with.

You may have a shot at Penn, JHU and Cornell with a 2200 plus and a great application.

Would my ECs be considered to be any better if I told you that at the hospital that I volunteer at, I organized a karaoke night/talent show fundraiser for the NICU unit. The night was a great success, I was an emcee (tied together all the acts with jokes and such), got donations for food and snacks and raised over $1000?

That is just a one-night thing, and $1000 is meager in comparison to what some applicants will have raised. Like I said, it was a one-time thing - don’t just tack it on for show.

what do you mean ‘dont just tack it on for show?’ Ya it may have been a ‘one night thing’ but so what if it was? Its not like we can go out having a big fundraiser like this every week, no one would show! And besides, although it may have been a ‘mere $1000’, that money was a lot to the families who received part of it. And ya others may go and raise large sums of money, often times up to a few hundred thousand dollars, but i feel like this is almost more important than that because i raised that money for people that i am actually in contact with everyday and with families that are in my community rather than just shipping a whole wad of cash to a complete stranger. Sorry if that was a little rude but i felt very strong about my accomplishment that night and i am not just putting it on to ‘tack it on for show’
