Thoughts?

A lot of people here suggest that the best application strategy is to appear as unique as possible.

I think that my background is somewhat interesting.

I belong to a very small nationality that most of the world has never heard of (Kalmyk) and my family's hopes and dreams all lie on my shoulders.

“economist” is a very broad description of what you do.

Are you a financial economist for Goldman Sachs that does research?
Are you an economist for a think tank?
Are you an econoimst for a retail firm trying to calculate elasticity?
Are you an economist for the WSJ writing articles?
Are you an economist for a consulting agency crunching numbers?
Are you an economist for the federal government doing market analysis?

Sorry, that was more me just having fun thinking of how many ways I could use the word “economist”.

Seriously though (all my joking aside), if you can give us a better indication of what you did (and maybe more information on your trading portfolio such as total revenue, your percent return, etc), we can give you a better indication of your chances.

I agree with Kaiden - while admissions officers always say it’s by-person basis, it’s absolutely true. I’m a Columbia MBA and there are students here who have been Rhodes Scholars and CEO’s and others who on paper seem very “mediocre”. It’s a lot about your positioning, your entire package, your recommendations and etc.

b-schools don’t give a boost to “unique” or disadvantaged backgrounds unless you are a minority and/or female.
