Hello all! I have a partly hypothetical question for you all regarding transferring and my current/past circumstances, and if those circumstances may affect the decision. I’m not really looking to transfer right now, but I wanted to ask just for outside opinion.
Let me explain my circumstances. Through high school and my first year of college, I was an above average student. Always in good standing, participated in extra curricular activities regularly, all of that stuff. Scored really well on the ACT as well, 31 in English and 32 in Reading.
During the Fall of 2013 term however, I experienced a sharp/severe decline in my mental health that effectively rendered me ineffective at managing any aspect of my life. As a result, my grades suffered, and due to an attempt on my life I left my school after that term.
I took spring semester off to slowly rebuild my life, and inquired about my GPA, it sat at a 1.97. I applied for another large public school in my state, and due to the low GPA I had to undergo a very extensive appeals process, eventually they allowed me to attend the university for the Fall 2014 term.
All that fall, I waited extremely hard in all of my classes, and finished the semester with a 3.675 GPA. Currently I’m looking at increasing that to possibly a 3.8, should my grades stay where they are, which won’t be difficult to do at all really.
My question is, would prospective schools in the future, should I decide to transfer, view the immense turnaround I did as a positive thing? I mean, it took an incredible amount of work to remake my GPA into that level, would they notice that?
Thanks for all your help!
