Hypothetical Question

If someone were to receive an AP score of 3 in English Literature which would allow them to receive 6 credits at their current school and would count towards their degree, and then decided to transfer to another university that had a higher standard for giving AP credit, would those credits transfer to the new university?
Would the new school even see the AP grades that were used to give credit for the English class, or would they just see both the credits and the AP grade? Thanks in advance.

Typically each school evaluates your AP credit separately. Any school you transfer to will apply your AP scores according to their own guidelines and if they give less credit (or no credit at all) for that exam then you're out of luck.

As for the school you're at now, most schools list AP scores as either generic placement test credit or they give credit for a certain class with a notation that the credit was given as a result of a test. That's how it will look on your transcript.

What if I was given placement credit for Cal I due to AP Cal AB grade and took Cal II, and I decided to transfer, would I have to take Cal I over at my new school, and not receive credit for Cal II?

We've been discussing this in another thread, but the simple answer is that it depends on the individual transfer college. Some will grant AP credit for transfers and some won't. You need to check with them on their policies.

Do most top universities grant AP credit for transfers?

Again, it depends on the school. Some grant credit and some just allow you to skip introductory classes. I'm sure there are some schools out there that just look at AP scores to show that you're a dedicated student and don't give you anything for them beyond that.

Well, I have to schedule classes, should I take the required year of English (since there's no guarantee it'll transfer to my new school), or should I skip it with AP credit? I know most schools want a year of English from transfer students.

If you have any idea where you're going to transfer, look into their policy. If they'll use the AP to fulfill the English requirement, then don't take it. If you don't know where you want to go, or if the place you want to go doesn't give credit for the AP, then it's probably best to take the English class(es).

I know it's kind of frustrating. I'm going through a similar situation with a CLEP test in Biology. Some of the schools I'm looking at will give credit for it and others won't. But, as I said earlier, you may want to be cautious with that because it could negatively impact your transfer apps.

To apply to medical school, I need to have a year of calculus. If I test out of Cal I, and take Cal II and III, will that satisfy the requirement?

Of course. :) Always take the highest math courses you can.
