hypothetical situation: what would you do if you were the director?

Since I can't seem to get the UCSD situation off my mind, I am just wondering what you would do in this situation: You are the Director of Admissions at UCSD, and you have decided to rescind me. Your grounds for rescinding me are:

'misrepresentation': student reported 'NP' when it was an 'F'.

Now let's say I set an appointment with you for a one on one meeting. I make the two and a half hour drive down to SD, and provide this:

I provide clear e-mail evidence of contact I had with the UCR academic officer before the deadline(date shows on the e-mail), essentially showing that I did get things in on time. This shows that it was an adminstrative error, and that my 'NP' report is not a complete fraud. The grade is now 'NP'.

The fact that I had the courage to even report such a situation to UCSD shows that I was not intending to misrepresent myself, rather tell UCSD exactly what was going on and how I was handling the problem. I'd like to think that I was being proactive and telling the truth. Had I intended to misrepresent myself, I would not have said a word to UCSD.

Assuming you didn't know me, what would you do if you were the Director?

Is there really any incentive to lie and put NP instead of F anyway. Your GPA gets dinged similarly, right?

Yeah, I would be hard pressed to call it misrepresentation.

Were you able to get the dean at your school contact ucsd.... or just even talk to him?

I would set the appointment (assuming there is not more information to the story than what you have presented here in this forum) and based on what you have said and will show at the meeting (again, assuming there is not other information we don't have here), I would "un-rescind" you.

I have no doubt that you will do all of the above with the utmost respect in your tone and attitude, which is how you have presented here.

Best of luck.

P.S. I, too, have the question sweet posed. Did your Dean contact the UCSD Director?

My Dean did contact UCSD, he said he made a phone call to the Vice Chancellor...but he left a message. When I asked him what he said he seemed to try to avoid the question, but he said he has done all he can do for me and wished me the best of luck. The past few times I have called UCSD, they continued to repeat that I 'misrepresented' myself. This is puzzling to me, because if I wanted to 'misrepresent' myself, I wouldn't have said anything to UCSD regarding the situation to begin with. Furthermore, if I was 'misrepresenting' myself, the grade would truly be an 'F', but the fact that my previous school's Dean approved the change should demonstrate that I wasn't bsing them; Dean's don't just randomly approve things, they need solid evidence.

I tried to make an appointment with the Deputy Director yesterday, but ran into his assistant. She said that I should just submit the appeal, and having an appointment won't help. I think she is using tactics to block me, so I am just going to show up at UCSD and hand it in myself. I am actually heading down to my previous school today to get a letter of recommendation as well.

I'd like people to know that the past 3-4 times I called UCSD, they told me that they are pretty adamant about the decision to rescind me, that things were "set", things did not look promising, and that things "looked grim", that it was "impossible" for me to get back into UCSD. Frankly, I'm very disgusted by the lack of help I've gotten over the phone. So my last resort is to drive 2 and a half hours alone down to UCSD -- and I'm not even sure that will work out.

I think your doing the right thing..........that what I would have done. I think they will actually be more helpful rather than trying to solve the situation over the phone.

Wow this really sucks. I hope it all works out for you in the end.
What would you do if you don't go to UCSD this fall?

I don't know right now, I already have a rental agreement signed through June of 08 at UCSD. I really didn't see this coming. I know UCSD can be elitist *******s about these things. This situation clearly favors me, and yet they rescinded me...so...I am not going to take no for an answer =) I will take this up to the state if I have to.
