Hypothetical situation

If I was the only person from my state (Arkansas) to apply to, let's say, Cornell...would that almost guarantee my acceptance, as long as my grades and stuff are fairly good?

I’m going to doubt this situtation is possible in the first place but if it were to happen, it’s certainly not written in stone.

Colleges aren’t bound by making decisions based on what state an applicant comes from and I’m sure coming from a certain state isn’t factored into the admissions process at all.

No.

10 chars.

you would probably be a little bit more actively recruited if you are the only one admitted from your state, but I doubt it will give a real admissions boost.

And besides, Arkansas isn’t quite as far out there as a state like North Dakota…

contrary to some of the past posts, i think that if this were true, it would definitely give you an advantage in admissions. colleges are always talking about how many states and countries are represented at their college. if they can say all 50 states, it sounds so much better than say 35 states.

HOWEVER, with that said, it definitely does not give you any guarantees. you still have to have at least average stats for that particular school’s applicants. also, the chances of you being the only one to apply from your state are slim to none.

Also, how would you ever confirm that you were the only person from your state to apply? Why worry over something like that that you definitely can’t control?

that’s why i said it’s hypothetical. i know it would never happen but im just wondering out of curiosity.

^BUT if you were the only black Eskimo first-generation National Merit Finalist ISEF-winning division I athlete from Arkansas … hypothetically. :)

Ok well what about Mississippi…which is actually where I’m from :)

Again, Mississippi aint no North Dakota… unless you’re looking at a ridiculously small LAC somewhere in Maine, for example.
