Hypothetical Situation

Well, if I attend Cornell in as a 2009 Freshman and I maintain very high grades in my major (Biology or Political Science). What are my chances of getting in as a transfer student to Harvard, Princeton, Yale, and Stanford. Is there even a chance? Has anyone here done this?

It would be really difficult. Possible, but extraordinarily difficult.

Harvard will probably accept a few by the time you would be applying. Princeton doesn’t offer transfer admission, and Yale and Stanford have transfer admissions rates that at 3% and 1% respectively. To get into the schools that do offer transfer admission, you’d essentially have to have (potentially) been offered at least a spot on the wait list when you applied for transfer admission.

I hate to be a downer because I’d love to transfer to two of these schools and I know how you feel, but yeah… it’s incredibly difficult. It can be done but it is very, very difficult. I hope you are able to find a school that changes your mind about transferring after your first year, but good luck with whatever you choose to do.

Listen, if you’re majoring in Pol Sci, chances are you’re going on to do Law or to get your masters in another field - If I were you, I would just do undergrad at Cornell and get your masters at Harvard/Yale/Stanford/Princeton.

Princeton doesn’t take transfers, and Harvard isn’t accepting any for 2 yrs I think. Like annnthony said, your chances for the other two are 1-3% - if you’re qualified, go ahead and apply, but chances are slim even if you’re really smart.
