Chances at HYPS, esp. Yale.

I'll admit beforehand that I'm not very experienced in the college chances area, but I think that your ECs are pretty strong and your rank is good. What is your unweighted GPA? Your writing SAT score is obviously a bit low, but I don't think it's absolutely necessary to retake as the rest of your stats look great (TASP, GPA, etc.). Apply to Yale SCEA and I'd say you have an excellent shot.

my problem is that my ECs don't seem to be focused in one area. Im planning to major in psych but my ECs are all over the place (Debate- polysci/law, Newspaper- journ, Science- "", piano- music, jets- math). I feel that my achievements are spread too thin...

why is your SAT writing score 690 when your PSAT score is 78? it seems like too much of a gap, but thats just one aspect of your resume. you have a fair shot at yale SCEA, but it has a very low admit rate. and it wont hurt you to lie and say you want to be a science major based on your resume

Jeez, as your typical stats obsessed CCer, I so want to tell you to retake the SAT one more time just to bring that 690 up to an 800. Then you would be UNSTOPABLE. But seriously, it's your call, especially if it seems to obssessive to you. Personally I see it like this: I'm pretty sure Yale would be more likely to reject you based on a lower SAT score rather then rejecting you based on retaking it just for raising one section.

Your EC's are excellent and great. GL.

H20Poloer, do you happen to go to Northview?

You began newspaper with an editor position? o_O Chief after only two years of experience?

What are the national awards that you won for journalism?

or southview.

god, i was having the writing SAT debate back in feb when i got my scores back. this far into the year, i don't want to have to retake the sats in oct. do you think that when compared to my psat and good grades/eng rec/award in eng that they will "overlook" or not weight it as much?

Dude, colleges don't look at your PSAT scores and I'm not sure whether you're supposed to send them. You have a 1600 equivalent on the SAT which is AMAZING so stop worrying. I think Yale accepts a lot of TASPers but rejects some that seemed like they were not the "TASP" type but still got selected to go to the program somehow(based on what I've haeard from people). Yeah, I'd say that you will get in if you write GOOD essays but any slacking in this area will probably get you rejected.

Your EC are good. Colleges like well-rounded students, so just because you want to major in psych doesn't mean you should leave everything else that you do. I think it's good to be good at everything. As someone else said, you can always lie about your major even though I would feel a little bit guilty lol

Top colleges don't want well rounded students, they want well rounded classes. Those are composed of stars in their area.

That said, you're a solid candidate like so many others. A decision either way woul;d not surprise me.

princeton ED sounds good...harvard and yale are questionable...stanford is 50/50

TASP + scores + rank = good chances at all.

stanford, why is harvad/yale questionable? I'm planning to apply to yale and harvard but not pton. would i waste an SCEA?

Omg I Was 110 Points Away From Perfect Sat!!!!! I'm So Doomed!!!!!

TASP is esentially the only remarkable ec you have, and believe me, it's remarkable. the debate to a degree (but definitely not in the same level as TASP) the writing score is not great. harvard and yale are reaches, attainable with great essays and such, but atm, reaches. princeton you have a good shot, stanford, not as much,

is pton ED easier to get in or something?

~50% of the class is ed for pton

whoa really? I'm a canadian student with good stats (for a canadian student that is), are my chances hurt in anyway because i'm "international" ?
