HYPS MIT Wharton Chances

You have great stats and to be honest, the fact that you are URM will work to your advantage. It would have helped a lot if you went more in detail for your extracurriculars. At the point of HYPMS, extracurriculars are what matter and you’re not providing much. Also, awards could help you out a lot here I think. From what I can see, the schools you want to attend seem like mid or high reaches. Best of luck.

All of the schools are reaches. But based on your stats, I’d expect you to get into at least two or three.

The one issue I see is that your activities all seem very academic centered. Colleges want students who will make an impact in the community.

Do you do any community service?

justin5585: I agree I didn’t provide much info in my original post. I was more detailed on the common app thankfully. Throughout this post I’ve interspersed more information about my ECs as well as some of my awards (they aren’t too impressive but they’re something)

Tanboyrunfast: Even getting into one would be a great honor and accomplishment. I posted these academic centered activities because these were the ones where I have distinguished myself in terms of official leadership. My post #34 and #37 in this thread go into a little bit more detail of my ECs and awards if you’re interested in reading a little bit more about my application. As always thanks for your time and chances!

Rubriv, dude in your place I would just relax and then wait for acceptance letters. LOL. but really despite your perfect scores, high GPA and URM status, you have decent ECs, and more importantly possessing leadership position. So just relax and forget about CC. Good luck!. Wish me luck too, because to get into my university I need to be the luckiest man in this World.

Thanks asker. Good luck to you too!

any more chances?

I think considering your scores, grades, race and leadership positions you have a good chance at all of these school. However I also think that the fact that most of your ec’s are just various academic clubs is not that compelling to admissions officers. If you’re a junior I’d encourage you to go to a business program over the summer or even start your own business if you can. Putting those interests into action will show passion and determination.

You are definitely qualified academically. Also I love how al of your ECs are only things you care about and put time into, so you don’t just do stuff to put on your resume. I think that is a huge thing and if it came through in your app, could benefit you. I honestly think it will come down to essays and letters of rec for you. Based on the type of person you seem to be, I bet your letters of rec were phenomenal. I’m sure your essays were strong too. Honestly all of these schools you listed are total crapshoots, and a lot of it depends on how the school wants to build their class. I bet you will be able to get into one of them and I really hope you do. You are a very genuine applicant and I wish you the best of luck. I hope you get in!

All the schools that you listed seem like reaches/low reaches. Since you are a URM, you might be able to get into some of the schools if you have excellent recs/essays. However, you are lacking ECs and that could harm you when applying to tier 1 schools. I would expect you to get into at least 1, maybe 2 of the schools that you listed.

Your ACT score is super impressive, and your SAT 2 scores are as well.
Also, your class rank is quite good, but for these schools, might not be good enough
There’s no doubting your ethnicity will help, and I doubt your ECs will get you denied. Imo, it shows a student with a strong work ethic, and strong leadership abilities. Being president of Mathletes and NHS, and founding quizbowl shows how much you put into school
I think you have an above average shot at HYPS/MIT and you got Wharton, in my opinion

Hey Ganix88, class rank isnt reported in my school. But anyway, I might have ended up with the highest gpa in the school with this semester. I’d appreciate more chances. Posts 34 and 37 in this thread have more detailed info about my app. So far the interview for MIT went average and the Yale one went phenomenal

Hi Rubriv - thanks so much for the chance!

None of these schools are really guaranteed for anyone, but I think given your GPA, URM status, and fantastic test scores you’ve got as good a chance as anyone!

Also, take what other people might be saying about your “weak” ECs with a grain of salt. So far, people in my graduating class have gotten into Yale, Princeton and UPenn early with ECs less impressive than yours - and they’re ORMs with stats comparable to yours. What really mattered was that they were very passionate and invested in the ECs they DID have - just like you seem to be. :)

You have a great chance at these schools with a perfect test score and a great gpa. ECs are also diversified and URM definitely helps. Now, the only thing that should make you stand out from other students would be your essays. If you’ve done that well, I wouldn’t be surprised if you were accepted into more than one of these schools. Good luck!

HYPSM are reaches for anyone…Still, I believe you have a decent chance. Great test scores and meaningful ECs. Good luck to you.

Chance back?http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1606501-help-me-predict-am-i-doomed-enter-community-college-have-gap-year.html

Any more?

Dude, you already have a better chance than most people applying to those schools. I think your ECs are good enough despite what other people are saying.
