HYPS+Others Chances

Hello, New to College Confidential.
I'm a confused Senior about to make decisions for colleges and I've decided that I want the best education possible(sounds cliche)

The colleges I have my eye on are obviously,
Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton( possible EA's? )
If none of those, I'll be applying to Duke, Washington University, University of Chicago, UC - Berkley, UCLA, or Northwestern.

Starting with my AP Tests,

AP Biology-> 5
AP Calculus AB-> 5
AP Calculus BC-> 5
AP European History-> 5
AP Physics-> 5
AP Statistics-> 5
AP US History-> 5
Summary: 7/7 5's

The ACT Score: 35
The SAT I Score: 2320
Math: 800
Reading: 770
Writing: 750

The SAT II Scores
Math: 800
Literature: 780
Physics: 790

As of Right now, my class rank is unkown, but I'm fairly confident i'm in the top 7.5% of my class of 650 individuals, placing me under #45.
Cumulative Unweighted GPA: 3.75

Evident upward curve of GPA over the course of my highschool education, low to high. I understand that certain colleges disregard your freshmen year- but does this mean they recalculate your GPA of the last 3 years of highschool? If my comprehension is correct, this would place my GPA unweighted much higher, I'd estimate: 3.933

Extracirriculars:
Four years of Varsity Lincoln Douglas Debate, attending Stanford Debate camp over the summer, qualifying to Nationals of Debate in my junior year Captain of Debate Team

Work experience over the summer at Best-Buy

100+ Hours of Volunteering at a local hospital
(Unsure as of now, I'd estimate 50+) Hours of Community Service

member of National Honors Society
member of Philosophy Club
member of Spanish Language Club
member of Medicial Club

Varsity Tennis Player for two years(Love to play on a Varsity Team at any of these universities) Possible Candidate for Captain

So Here is my question: With my relatively low cumulative unweighted GPA with freshmen year included, do I stand a chance even with my SAT ACT AP getting accepted to HYSP? And if so, about what chance, if not, why not? If none of those, what would be my chances at the other colleges listed. Any and all comments are greatly appreciated, thank you.

If You are from California:

UCB/UCLA: Match

For Tennis: You probably need to be recruited to play Varisty especailly at Duke, UCLA, Berkeley & Stanfurd. Those teams are REALLY REALLY good.

I'm not from California, sorry, from the midwest...
What about the other schools?
And for tennis- how would I go about getting "recruited"? (This may be an utterly stupid question, but it's midnight and I'm sleepy)

To get recruited at pretty much any ivy/duke/stanford you need to have (at least) a state ranking and play serious tournaments. You can always send the school's coach a video/resume though.

EC's will be decidedly average for the applicant pool at HYPS. Stanford and Princeton only look at grades for 10th-12th, so you might look better there. I'd say ED at princeton would definitely be your best shot, if you like it, and Stanford EA would probably be in the 50/50 range.

Are there any other universities that I listed that only look at 10th-12th?
So what you're saying is 50/50 on Stanford and.. _ on Princeton? :) That's encouraging, lol, appreciate all the comments

bump... any advice/comments?

50/50 is utterly silly. A val at a top school with a 2400 is less than a 50/50 candidate!

We are looking at below top 5%, ECs that are not strong, iffy GPA and good but hardly unusual SATs. I would say an 11% chance is more like it. You will get into many fine colleges with good essays and recs. HYPSM probably won't be among. Your schools below them are closer to your 50/50 schools (lower at some).

Suze- Will they(Stan and Prince) recalculate my GPA removing freshmen year?
Edit: My Class Rank is 3% of my class, got that information today.

DejectedPanda:

UCB/UCLA: Match (out of state)

And my chances at the others?

Your chances at HYPS seem pretty solid

Thank God, lol

StudyingStud is wrong. Your chances at getting into one out of Harvard, Yale, Princeton, OR Stanford might be around 20-30%. But remember that there are thousands of kids with better grades and ECs than you have (though you are ahead of most of your competition in test scores). You need to add some match and safety schools to your list (based on something other than their names).

Okay, but I thought my chances at Stanford and Princeton would be higher then Yale or Harvard, am I correct? And also- would applying ED/EA be worth it to any college if I can just improve my GPA throughout my senior year? Is there anything further I can do to establish a more solid application to Stanford/Princeton?

Not exactly- i think you have a slightly higher chacne for stanford than HYP. Also, you will NOT be able to dramatically improve your GPA at all in one term, and to think you can is ridiculous. ED/EA is not a waste, but it all depends on if you feel pulled toward one school. The only other ways you can really help your app is by writing a kick-ass essay and doing well at the interview. There's really nothing more you can do now, unless you cure cancer, or something like that.

Good thing I just cured breast cancer. Joking of course:( If only.
But- Stanford doesn't have an interview- and I understand what you mean, and Stanford is by far my first choice.. and I think i'd have the best chance there, so I'll apply there... on the Stanford Discussion forum I got good responses... thanks all!
