VVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVVV

If you were white or URM, you would definitely have a huge chance in getting into HYPS. But since you’re Asian, or ORM, it’s going to be a crapshoot.

A white kid has a huge chance of getting into HYPS with a 32? Are you kidding? Even a URM would not have a huge chance with that score.

But his GPA and SATII scores are killer. Maybe he needs to take the SAT I?

What’s a URM?

and… whats about the lowest score (ACT) i can get, and have a normal~high chance at the schools?
… i know “number” isnt the only factor in deciding . but still haha

URM=under represented minority (i.e. african american, hispanic, native american, etc.)
ORM=over represented minority (asian)

Here are Brown’s statistics with the ACT: [Brown Admission: Facts & Figures](<a href=“Undergraduate Admission | Brown University”>Undergraduate Admission | Brown University)

You have a 33 superscore/composite, which is actually pretty competitive. I wouldn’t be too worried about your ACT, but you could try the SAT. You might surprise yourself and do really well :P. GL

oh and yeah include everything you can…without getting ridiculous

IF you’re not ■■■■■■■■, that’s awesome! You should def include editor at your school. Your ACTs are on the low side but not that much on the low side, and the other stuff should compensate-- aren’t HYP always talking about how scores don’t matter so much? I also think they care less about messing up their ACT school stats than SAT, but, that’s just me.

Alsoooo… avoid coming off as a math/sci nerd and I don’t think being Asian hurts you more than say… being white. Does anyone know whether it actually helps to apply as race undefined, do they care about race numbers that much?

well, you dont really have anything to worry about, the SAT IIs are brilliant and dont worry about the 32 its fine, if you wrote a good essay you have as good a chance as anyone, you should get in based on your stats, but with acceptance rates averaging about 13% for those schools all anyone can do is hope, however youve done a damn good job so you should get in somewhere and i have no doubt that youll do well

chance me back at
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/635725-chance-me-i-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Morgan is incorrect about acceptance rates, they are closer to half of the 13% he mentions. Expect all to accept fewer this year than last when acceptances rates among those three were all under 10% with Harvard being at 7%. Then factor out the 40% that are hooked and the real acceptance rate at these schools for an unhooked candidate is closer to 3%. That’s why using the words “good Chance”, unfortunately, can never be true even for a 4.0/2400.

A little more research and responsible comments would be a good thing:)

hmom you don’t have to be condescending. ok, big deal. morgan got her acceptance rate stats wrong. oh no, the world’s going to end.

just because morgan listed a wrong statistic does not mean you have to ask for “more responsible comments.” come on now, cut the guy/gal some slack. we’re here to help people out, not to act smug when we know something that someone else doesn’t.

a little more responsible and less arrogant comments would be a good thing. :)

Sorry, Morgan is one of several posters who write threads repeatedly that are based on misinformation. Kid’s believe them. Correcting them is not arrogance, just setting the facts straight.

bummppppp

:]

bummpppp

help an asian !

I’m surprised you didn’t take the SAT I; Based on your SAT II scores, I’m sure you would have done quite well on the SAT. I think that it is very difficult to chance someone on these schools. Based on what I’ve seen, the stats are very different for each admitted student. However, I feel you have a good shot at each of these schools. Your SAT IIs are great, your GPA is great, and I don’t think your ACT will hurt you as much as you think. (ACT is only one piece to the puzzle) Don’t stress and good luck!!

oh… the thing is. ive already taken the psat and it only came out to be 212
so i didnt even bother taking the sat…
'

wait…
WHY ARE YOU APPLYING TO HYPS??
prestige whore much??
seriously
do some research
see what schools you would ENJOY going to
not where your parents want you to go
but where you YOURSELF will fit in and gain benefits

Bumppp…

over 600 views and only 15 replies??? :/

thats cruel.

For your information, i HAVE done my research and have concluded that for majors such as business and law, you DO need the prestige of the schools to be recruited to major law firms and corps. Excuse me if I sound like a “prestige whore” to you. But honestly there are people who try their best to get into those schools for their best benefit, and if you think that those people are only reaching for their parents’ wishes and whatnot. I think it’s YOU who should be doing your research. And last but not least, why did you even READ my thread? Get a life, please–instead of reading another’s stats and leaving unappropriate comments to make yourself feel better.

Your scores a pretty low. And you should have done more extracurriculars. I mean only 9? Come on, maybe you should have spent less time partying and more time volunteering. Uh…you might want to look at Rice and U or Pittsburgh. Rice is probably a reach for you, but because you didn’t take the SAT I, that should help your chances.
