Your going to get into at least 75% of those congrats

impressive and good luck

Thanks so much guys! I’m sending the EA App to Harvard in a few hours… Scared out of my mind!! :O

I can’t believe that everybody put those universities on “reach” mode. You got 3x 800 for the SAT subject tests and 2340 for SAT so that immediately puts you in the top 0.2% or something. Not sure what the poetry recitation thing is but you’ve won heaps of other prizes for arts music science etc so basically you win everything. You even do a bit of sport so it kind of makes you seem well-rounded. Most important thing is your 500+ hours of volunteer music. That is crazy. I’m guessing you’ll make most of those universities easily.

I agree with chancemaster. It really is a crapshoot when its the elite universities. I think you will at least get into 3 of these schools. You should have no problem getting into your top choice, brown. Good luck!

this is kind of a side thing, but you said “National Merit Finalist”
assuming your a high school senior, I would make sure you didn’t write that down on any of your apps because we’re not supposed to find out till after apps are turned in if we made the finalist standing.

Wow these stats are mouth-watering to a humble international like me. Still, I think your EC’s don’t match up to your academics(not entirely your fault, we humans can’t do EVERYTHING), though the latter are excellent.
Here’s my speculation(remember that all Ivies are reaches):

Brown-Very low reach
MIT-Mid reach
Harvard-Mid reach
Princeton-"
Caltech-"
Yale-"
Stanford-"
Columbia-Low reach(for you, specifically)
Johns Hopkins-High match
Northwestern-Mid/High match

Chance me back, please! http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1572592-columbia-ed-top-state-schools-ea-chance-international.html

Since you mention that you don’t live in “California- thank goodness!” and you interned at Yale, I’ll assume you’re in an east coast private school. Is it a feeder, like Andover, Exeter, or Lawrenceville prep? Then note the specific Ivy your school feeds into and focus your efforts on that one. Stanford, btw, has a much lower acceptance rate for East-Coasters.

With a 2300+ SAT, a 4.0, and national Science Olympiad awards, your resume is solid, but not standout/shoo-in. I suspect you’ll get into one of HYPSM, with S and M being your highest reaches.

Your order of preference shows Brown to be your top choice, and it is comparatively easier to get into than HYPSM. An ED to brown with your resume has a decent chance of making it. I suspect you have a 40% chance of being admitted to brown ED, or 30% RD, if your essays are as excellent as the rest of your application.

Brown - Low reach
MIT - Reach
Harvard - Reach
Princeton - Reach
Caltech - Match
Yale - Reach
Stanford - Reach
Columbia - Low Reach
Johns Hopkins - High Match
Northwestern - High Match

HYPSM are all reaches for everyone, but I think you have a really good shot at them. You should definitely get into at least one ivy. Your ECs look good, but I’m a little bit worried about your SAT IIs. They’re all sciences, I would recommend taking something like a language or a history or something else to show that you have more diversity than just science because even if you’re just going into science the schools especially the ivies still want to see that you’re good in many different areas.

Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1572861-chance-me-i-will-chance-back.html

You’re an excellent applicant!!! I think you’re in at Northwestern and Johns Hopkins. The other ones are low reaches/reaches, but not out-of-reaches, and I think you’ll get into at least a few of the ivies/top schools. Good luck!

Thanks so much to everybody!

@justabee - Don’t worry, I was just making an assumption. 90% of semifinalists become finalists so I figured the odds were in my favor :)

@Stanfordmania - Yeah I feel that way too. Academics were really emphasized by my parents, though, and ECs were just frilly extras to them. An extra year of studying would have sealed my USA team spot at the International Chem Olympiad. Oh well. No use crying about it now.

@Nihilus - My school is a feeder to Yale (10 - 15 acceptances a class, which is 10%), and my parents are also professors there so I’m not too worried, but I’m not exactly dying to be accepted. Stanford and MIT are lovely places, but the world wouldn’t end for me if I didn’t get in. Brown and Harvard are my main concerns as of today. And thanks for the 30% chance! Most useful statistic I’ve heard in a while :)

@Harrovian - Thanks for the advice! I might try to squeeze in the Chinese language and hearing test, if possible for RD apps.

@yayitsme123 - Thankyouthankyouthankyou :)

Brown: high match
MIT: reach
Harvard: reach
Princeton: reach
Yale: reach
Stanford: reach
Columbia: low reach

Good luck in your search!

My friend’s son had very similar stats and ECs–he applied ED to Brown and was accepted but not to the 7 year BA-MD program there. Believe it or not there are 1000+ students like you applying every year and some are true URMs.

Hey guys,

Once again, thanks for reading!

At the very last minute I decided to apply to Harvard early and was accepted. I just want to thank the CC community for all the guidance you have given me these past two years, especially on this post.

If any of you guys have any questions or need any assistance with your incredible journeys into the depths of college admissions, I would be very happy to help.

Best,
