I-81 reopens at Harrisburg, after having been shut down several days

All of Interstate 81 reopens after repair work | PennLive.com

For anyone traveling to Cville from the north for graduation, I81 is now re-opened in both directions on the north side of Harrisburg PA. It was completely shut down for several days because a diesel tanker truck exploded and destroyed an overpass.

Thanks for posting this, charlieschm. I read it yesterday morning when we were on our way back to NY from W&M’s May 12th graduation, and it was good to know we didn’t need to dread going through Harrisburg. We were caught unaware on our way south last Friday - what a nightmare. Traffic flowed smoothly through Harrisburg yesterday, though the 22/322 exit will probably be closed for a long time, and there’s unending construction in that area anyway.

Wishing all this weekend’s UVA graduates the best of luck! We’re looking forward to attending graduation there next year. And also wishing luck to those NOVA families who need to return from ceremonies via 95 in the Woodbridge area, if any do. Construction lane closures cost us an extra hour there yesterday. If there are alternate routes, I suggest taking them.
