I absolutely cannot decide what to write my common app essay on!

I'm freaking out, and having serious writer's block.

I finished 2/3 of an essay that talks about my work in a youth organization, but for some reason writing an essay on community service is seeming too cliche now :( I don't even know if I should bother finishing this, or start a new one.

I'd rather write something lighthearted about..nothing significant really..but then after writing a paragraph or two, I feel like they are gonna throw this out because it does not talk about anything deep or meaningful.

Some advice to panic stricken kid would be greatly appreciated with virtual online hugs.

From my reading of the collegeboard essay guide I have gleaned there is only one thing you CAN write your college essay about. That’s you. (Cliche). Anyways. You should start with a list of stuff about yourself. Put it down for a few downs. Come back to it, and organize it into groups. Put it down again. Come back, write an essay. Throw that essay away, since you probably wrote what you think they wanted to hear. Write a second essay. If you like it, use it. Get it proofread and checked first of course.
