OK, so I was deciding between MIT and Harvard. I really dug MIT, but Harvard was giving me a lot more Financial Aid (I even tried appealing MIT's aid but they wouldnt have it) plus it has that name. So, eventually I gave in at the last moment and sent the card off to Harvard. Now...I'm starting to regret it. Anyway, my question is: Is it possible to switch it now that I've already sent the card? I think I could find the money to make MIT work. I'd call and ask but I don't want them getting annoyed with me and telling me it's too late. What do you guys think?

I think that this is a better conversation to have with your parents.

It's Harvard! Of course it's the right decision.

What are you majoring in though?

First call MIT ASAP and see if it's too late to change your mind. If it's not, talk to you parents. You do need to listen to your gut, which is telling you something. You can achieve just as much at MIT, if not more than you could at Harvard. Ignore the name and go for the BEST FIT.

Try and enroll in both schools, take a month to decide what one you like more, and then go to that college.

You can take MIT classes if you go to Harvard...correct?

yes, but the scheduling doesn't exactly match up, (it's not as easy as they make it seem)

this could get you booted from both schools so I would not recommend this approach.

Give it Harvard a shot, if you still hate it after your freshman year, then transfer out. I'm sure with your GPA (you did get into MIT too afterall) and that Harvard brand name, you'll have a fantastic shot at any other college that takes transfer.

Yes.

Come to MIT :)

Remember how on tests, they always tell you to go with your gut feeling about a question? And when you do, and then go back and change it in the last thirty seconds of class, you ALWAYS get that question wrong. Well, this is kinda like that. ;)

I sent you a PM.

I agree with the poster who said you could transfer from Harvard if you don't like it. However, try to achieve good grades to facilitate your transfer. Don't just rely on the Harvard "name" for a school to accept you.

Go to harvard... OBVIOUSLY, Harvard alumns all make millions of dollars every year and live in 50,000 square feet homes...

No way Harvard alumns all make millions. Some can make millions because they were smart enough that they got into Harvard, not because of their Harvard degrees. And that's several years out of college, when the name on your degree means nothing but bragging rights on how smart you were in High School.

The choice of college should be of personal fit. Sounds like MIT would better fit the OP. Talk with adcoms from MIT to see if you can still go there (MIT would probably like to one-up Harvard). If you don't like Harvard, transfer to MIT after a year.

I heard Harvard graduates can fly and read minds? Sounds pretty cool to me.

"I heard Harvard graduates can fly and read minds? "

I know it, I just know. That explains why all the Harvard girls looked so disgusted when they saw me and all the guys wanted to high-five me. happy thought happy thought
