I did one of the worst mistakes ever by accidentally sending my low SAT score to NYU after i applied test-optional on the common app application. I stated in the application that i didn’t want to submit any scores neither wished to. After i received my scores i noticed that i listed NYU to receive them, the thing is that i can’t really do anything about it because you can’t cancel SAT scores after you receive them. Is there something I can do? Will they still see the scores even if I applied test-optional in the application? This is driving me crazy and i think it will hurt my chances more, so please any help would be appreciated!
If you applied TO they won’t use it. Nothing to worry about.
If you want reassurance call and ask but if you clicked the TO box it should show up that way in the portal.
Some submit up front and apply TO after further study. It’s likely not uncommon.
I’m sure you are fine but call or email if you want reassurance. You can explain I decided to go TO after initially (or inadvertently) submitting a test.
Most schools will ignore it.
I have seen two schools that say you can’t apply TO if you’ve already sent scores. Sending scores after applying TO would be interesting at those outliers.
My son accidentally sent scores to schools where he wanted to apply test optional as well. He called each admissions offices and asked for his scores to be removed from his application or not considered. Two of the three schools said, “fine”. One said they couldn’t remove the scores, but that they wouldn’t be considered. He indicated TO on those applications. I don’t think the schools looked at the scores. He got into his ED school (the place that said they couldn’t remove scores from his application), even though his SAT score was below the mean at that school. I can’t promise you they won’t see scores that you sent in, but I believe that if you call the admissions offices, AOs will do their best to avoid or not consider your scores even though they were sent.
