I accidently applied Restrictive EA to 2 schools?

Hi guys,

I applied restrictive EA to both Harvard and Stanford. It was an accident. What is going to happen? If something bad is going to happen, how can I prevent it from happening? If I am forced to select one school, should it be Harvard or Stanford for restrictive EA.

Do schools communicate and will I be blacklisted? Im so worried :(

Thank u

Contact one and change the status to RD. Simple as that. You already were forced and chose not to make the choice, do it right now. And… I think this is an immediate test of our new ban on that which shall not be named…

Swear I’m not a *****. I had originally intended to apply EA to Harvard and I completed my app but when I was filling out the Stanford EA I just clicked the box to test if the Common App would even let me apply restrictive EA to two schools. I never unchecked the box and submitted both apps that night along with a few others. So I will just call admissions of Stanford tomorrow and ask to be taken off EA? That easy?

Yeah. Just call Stanford admissions and tell them your mistake. It takes guts to admit a mistake. They will see that.

Contact Stanford tomorrow first thing, apologize for the error and switch the application to RD. I would call them and then email to confirm so you have something in writing. I’d also tell your guidance counselor.

I wouldn’t tell them you did it at two schools, just tell them you realized you checked the wrong box and ask them to please change your app to Regular Decision. Also… if I were you, I would actually email and ask for a return email. Then you have some proof you asked if somehow they don’t change it. You can just email the main admissions emailbox from the website.

Ask them specifically what you need to do to change to RD. They may require confirmation of your identity in some way. I would hope that they do, otherwise anyone could call and say, “hey, I’m John Doe, and like to withdraw my application.”

OP, you say you submitted both apps “along with a few others.” Make sure that the few others are RD or not a conflict with restricted EA.

Thanks so much for the help guys!

I called them the next day - only mentioned I wanted to switch to RD. They gave me the email credentials@stanford.edu and I emailed them and said I wanted to be put in the RD pool from the EA pool. They emailed back and said they changed it for me.

Again thanks for the help! I don’t think I scared off Stanford or anything.
