I already got a MAILED letter from Umich???!!!

Yea. Pretty shocked. My wolverine access still doesn't show any links but I was shocked to come home from school and find a letter from UofM on my desk.

Heres the thing. I knew I wasn't going to get accepted outright, but I was hoping for the "semi-deferred" letter. Some kid that got a perfect SAT score last year said that UofM mails these letters to (usually) high SAT/low GPA kids or borderline kids. If you get this letter, you're supposedly accepted as long as you keep a good senior year GPA.

My letter doesn't specifically say that I got deferred. It basically says that they need "additional information" (ie: senior year grades). Am I just out of my mind or is there such a letter? The kid that told me this said that his letter was different from other "deferred" letters.

My wolverine access still isn't updated yet either. Am I getting my hopes up? Am I really straight out deferred or did I get that "different" letter?

First of all, this is for Fall freshmen blah blah blah? Not transfer? Secondly, the start of admission decisions?!?! Third of all: sorry, don't know. Bump.

yea, i'm not a transfer or anything. freshman applicant.

That's crazy. I don't know how to interpret this, I'll wait for someone who knows what's going on to comment before I start freaking out and running out to my mail box every day.

Well, either way you look at it, you've been deferred. They've delayed your decision rather than accept/reject outright. From last year's admissions cycle, I didn't hear anything about different deferral letters and the meanings behind them, like an auto admit based on senior year GPA. Sounds doubtful, but you could call the admissions office for clarification. At this point, keep up your grades, keep expressing your strong desire to attend, and hope for the best.

So I called them up. They said I wasn't deferred. They said that they want to see my senior year grades first before making a final decision. I even asked them if I was put into the "deferred pile" but he said I wasn't.

I asked my friend that got this letter last year and he said that they want to see if I am capable of getting a good gpa. He said that this was a probable acceptance pending my good senior year grades, but that it was not an "auto admit."

Here's my stats. Lets make this a chances thread while we're at it, haha.

Thanks

don't worry about it. i got the same letter, sent them solid grades, was accepted about a week after i sent my grades, then i was accpeted to the honors program.

you're fine... don't let it ruin the beginning of you senior year like i let it do to mine

I got the same letter at around the same time last year. 1410 SAT's, 3.0 UW GPA. Was waitlisted and then accepted off the waitlist.

When did you send in your application?

jeez... I hope they put a lot of weight on GPA or else I'll get deferred too, haha, because you look great compared to me except for the GPA. But, I'd like to remind everyone to please kindly post when you get any kind of notification from UM so that we can know when to start expecting things. Maybe this means that it's already that time, they said November... hah.

Would they send out letters of this type before acceptance letters or anything? What other factors are there? and yes, when did you send your app in?

My app was complete about two weeks ago. Fast as hell....which is one reason why i'm confused/hyped.

^I hate you. I sent in my app 2 weeks ago and havnt heard a thing. Maybe it's because I'm out of state, but I'm still at a feeder school. I hope you get in though. If they see good senior year grades, probably.

God damn. I'm going to be dying of anxiety for this Friday then, and then for every day afterwards.

2 weeks? that's fast. I sent mine in September and still have not received anything like that. You are lucky! :)

That's the good deferral letter. You're in good shape if you can do well in your classes this semester. It's in your hands now. You do well this next 2-3 months, you're in at UMich.

What's the bad deferral letter?

Question: Do you get rejection letters in the mail like the defferal one?

That's crazy. Now suddenly I'm expecting a response way too soon. I applied September 21st... received October 17th... hm. So it's already been more than two weeks, maybe this Friday. heh.

My daughter did not get a response for 10+ weeks so calm down.
