I am a current McGill Student; Ask me anything

Right now I think you can drive and come back same day…so that would mean a crossing in NY (I-87) or VT (I-89) typically. Everything is really in flux - you will find out closer to the date. I know that isn’t necessarily helpful - just the reality today.

Same here- we seem to have a big contingent from the Chicago area!

mikeswede are you planning on driving? if so, going over via NY or Vermont? The timing is what is killing me - we need the PCR test within 72 hours, but if i drive all the way to Vermont i need to spread that drive over three days.

What I am hoping for is a change in policy before then. D21 is still deciding between McGill and one other school, though.

Agreed. By September things may be different. They may be able to show proof of vaccination instead. I know some countries are considering this. My daughter is also deciding between Canada and an American school. Still waiting to hear from McGill and accepted at UofT. The waiting is hard.

Although Canada is probably seeing the worst wave at the moment with the different variants, I remain hopeful that things will be different in a few months! As a Canadian living in the US who has not seen her family in more than a year, I read the CDN news daily!
They now have overnight vaccine clinic (yes, you may go out after 8pm curfew if it is the get the vaccine) in Quebec! Ontario is vaccinating 18 and older…patience!

We are really trying to get our son to Montreal just to take a look around the campus. He is deciding between McGill and two other schools in the US. If we were to drive from Vermont and return the same day, is that allowed? I requested to join the FB group you recommended as well. Thanks for the help!

Any thoughts on what’s it like to start as undecided in the Arts at McGill? Have read about the importance of self advocating and seeking out support BUT what about those kids who are more liberal arts focused, really enjoy school and don’t have a direction in mind at 17. How have you seen kids navigate this path? Any thoughts most welcome.

My son is an international student joining McGill this September. He is planning to stay at Molson Hall. If I go to visit him, is it possible to stay there for a couple of days, along with him? Do they allow guests to stay with the students over the weekend or should I book a hotel everytime I visit him?

Was anyone admitted with a B in English? My son meets the general minimums with a 4.0 UW, and 1500 SAT but chose to challenge himself with AP English. So does that mean no point in applying? Thanks for any insight!

Yes, they are flexible.

Note that you are not required to live in residence in first year. It’s just that first-year students are guaranteed places in residence.
