I am a FAFSA idiot!

Really seriously I am a FAFSA idiot. I was the good mom, I did our taxes early so I could get my FAFSA out right away. I even did my FAFSA as soon as I could using my figures from 2004.

Once I did my taxes, I thought that I updated the FAFSA. (notice this is where I became an idiot!) I updated my info, I thought. Early this week I received an e-mail from a FA officer that I needed to change my state of residence. I went into the FAFSA and updated the report but it was the report that didn't have the school in question on it. I tried to correct the right FAFSA but it wouldn't let me make corrections for 3 days.

Today, I went into the FAFSA and corrected my state of residence. Believe it or not I had put my state of residence as the Yukon! I also noticed that I did not change the Parents 2005 Income Tax Return from will file to already completed. After I changed everything, my EFC dropped by 1600 dollars.

My question (if you got through all of this), I received a Financial Aid award from a school today. Should I call this school and tell them that my EFC has changed? Also have I really screwed up? Will this affect my S's financial aid since I found out my mistakes so late at his other schools?

I sympathize with you. I made corrections, sent them in and then realized that I forgot to change the "will file" to "already complete." So I had to wait three days to make that correction!

I would call. Couldn't hurt!
