well, kind of. i am a professional model (scouted when i was 12) and i've appeared in national ad campaigns for guess, aerie, and roxy. i also appeared in a tv commercial for smirnoff ice (ironic...since i'm still in high school lol). i've also done a TON of other low-profile modeling work. in addition, i'm already being recruited to be a "campus girls usa" model to represent whichever university i enroll at in fall 2010 (i'm planning on applying ED to either penn or brown).

2 questions:
1) would it be appropriate to submit photos from my modeling portfolio for inclusion in the common app's "art supplement"? i'm realllllly hoping so because modeling is one of the things i'm most passionate about and i definitely want to demonstrate my talent (i don't care what anyone says, modeling IS a talent!) to the adcoms
2) can my talent in modeling be considered a "hook"?

it’s a passion, something you work at, and something you’ve achieved success in, so yes, it will be advantageous to include it in your application

If you’re a girl, please apply to Penn. And yes, modeling can be a type of hook. Let me explain with an anecdote.

One of my teachers who worked in the Princeton admissions office told me that when it got down to the wire, the Dean would pick the prettiest girls. He would, quite literally, spread out all the applications on a table, and choose the best looking girls.

Though if it really is your passion, that’s cool. It’s not a hook; it’s much like playing a varsity sport. There’s just not as much time commitment. (This could be totally off-base. I do admit that I’m not familiar with the modeling industry!)

At first I was confused that no one was flaming this girl for her pompous thread title, jealousy-stirring good looks, and username that implies *****ines… then I realized that I was the only girl on this thread, unless the poster above me is a girl.

SO ,maybe she is the next Miss Upenn
BTW,are you really a smirnoff model ?I doubt they would pick a high school girl … never mind Vodka ‘‘Finlandia’’ tastes better ;)

if you truly are what you say you are, your model portfolio should act as an arts supplement and be in there. lets face it, that is your main EC and not using it is just plain stupid.

I submitted a picture book that I made (binded with cover and all, it’s a good talent of mine, making them) of my most favorite ECs and my time in HS and it got me a likely letter, so who knows. It showed the spectrum of my interests and talents and really did justice to all the hardwork that I put in all my ECs.

OP: I can only advise you based on all the facts available. This requires that you post pictures. Only then can I deliver an informed decision.

By the way, until I read #8, I thought your name was “Ice Cream Cone Breaker”. Guess my vision of you scooping ice cream while wearing a “Miss Congeniality” sash, and then clumsily dropping the double-dip on your shoe, is now out the window.

MODELING is NOT a talent…
if you include that in your art supplement…they’re going to think that you are stupid and cocky …the art supplement is for people who have LEGIT talents…not dumb things like modeling

Its not as easy as you think.I know a lot of pretty girls who walk like trees and even though they look like models, they are not just because they lack ability and talent
