I am an Econ major! CAL and UCLA, TAP Certified baby! Chances?

Applied to: UCLA and CAL
Units: 62 at the end of this semester (Spring 2007)
UC GPA: 3.46
TAP: Certified!
Major: Business Economics/ Economics
IGETC: Done by the end of this semester (Spring 2007)
Essays: Weak :(

Major Prep
Microeconomics (Honors)- In Progress
Macroeconomics (Honors) - A
Calculus I - B
Calculus II (Honors) - In Progress
Financial Accounting - A
Reading and Composition ENGL 1A - A
Reading and Composition ENGL 1B- A
Statistics - Did not take (Not required by UCLA, not sure for other schools)

You are just hovering over the border, so TAP will be very very useful.

Since most of the major prep work has been straight A's you have a good chance. I'd say 70% you'll get in imo just because econ is so competitive.

If you were majoring in Poli Sci or somethin, you'd probably be in.

Again, just my opinion.

I assume you're talking about UCLA

Wow fast reply. You have a good chance at UCLA and I'd be surprised if you didn't get in. I'm just worried that there is so many people applying into Econ @ UCLA and they have limited spaces available, it might be difficult.

Cal is a toss up. 50/50

If you are really anxious to find out, I'd call up the UCLA college admissions office and talk to a counselor.

I rather live in ignorance though. ;)

Well, I have done everything I can do to get into LA. I think I will just wait. I keep asking counselors at my school and they are very careful not to make any gaurantees, but they do seem very positive about my chances to LA.

PS. I get email to my cell everytime someone responds, so that is why I respond so quickly. :)

If I were you, I'd apply to NYU too. Deadline is March-Aprilish.

You have nothing to lose except application fee.

Oh really, that is a really good tip. I haven't done ANY research about schools other than UCs. I will look into NYU.

What are you looking for in a school?

NYU has a great business program going on and they looking for hardworking students. They don't just look at stats.

They are a private school, so their application review process is different. I also don't know if you can afford private, but hey, thats what college loans are for.

Theres a huge thread about it somewhere.

DO EET, APPLY TO NYU. :)

I just want to go to the best school possible. I have been looking at the US NEWS top 100 Universities list. I would prefer an urban setting rather than a rural setting. I grew up my entire life in San Francisco. I like Los Angeles a lot more than San Diego for example.

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/edu/college/rankings/brief/t1natudoc_brief.php

I can afford private.

USNews.com is an overall ranking of one particular school. Each school succeeds in one section more than others.

EX. USC might be 20ish on the list overall, but they are Top 5 best school of cinema.

IF you are going to major in business/econ or law, NYU is arguable has one of the best programs. Even better than UCLA imo.

USC has a top-10 undergrad business school. And hey, I'm from The City too. :D

Unfortunately, USC apps deadline has passed.

More like Top....1. :)

Ya, I noticed you were a Giants fan.

Yep, if you're IGETC certified, your application minus TAP is very borderline. But you sealed the deal with TAP. I woudln't worry about UCLA.

man i think your TAP and everything looks good cause will help you.
Question I have though is that you got an A in Accounting and that is not an easy class. Yet your GPA is only 3.46...just confused cause some of the harder class you got A's in but why such a low GPA?

60/40 for the worse at cal imo

in at ucla

too bad De Anza doesn't have TAP :(

I got a lot of C and B grades when I first started college, then I started focusing on school!

Financial Accounting might be the hardest class I've taken, I worked really hard and I'm really proud of that A.

These days my GPAs for each semester are about 3.7
