Hello there! I am an OOS student attending a public uni right non and thinking of transferring to UT Austin. I am currently majoring in computer science and I want to know if it is even possible for an OOS compsci student to transfer in and how likely it is to occur. And if there is someone who knows of someone doing this. Thank you and have a great day!
Would you be in-state for UT Austin?
Can you tell us what school you currently attend, and what your stats are (both high school and university)?
I am OOS (Out of State). I attend a public university on the east coast and I am in the honors college there.
My stats are:
University GPA: 4.0
I have taken
Calc 3
Linear Algebra
Differential Equations
- Bunch of computer science classes
As of now, I am a sophomore with 65 credits done and I am doing 18 credits rn.
I also worked as a software engineer intern for a company that retirement advising that paid $30/hr. I am also currently doing research on evolutionary robotics in a lab (plan to eventually publish a paper) and TAing for one of my classes rn. I might also pick up a part-time job doing web scrapping for a startup, but I haven’t decided yet.
High School GPA: 4.78 / 5.33 (Weighted)
SAT SCORE: 1530/1600
Even though I provided my stats, I am more interested in hearing about OOS people who successfully transferred to UT Austin who majored in computer science. Thank you.
UT Austin has a website, you know, and one of the topics they address is external transfers. The CS dept. even talks about internal vs external transfers and has an email you can contact for more information. Their Common Data Set can tell you how many transfer students applied to the college and how many were accepted, but you should ask the dept. how many were CS students.
Sounds like you are doing extremely well where you are studying currently. Is there a compelling reason to transfer?
I have already checked the website and I have looked at the statistics for the admits of 2018 and 2017. I understand that last year was pretty competitive. In all fairness, I wasn’t necessarily looking to be chanced, but rather for more anecdotal evidence of transfers who were in similar situations and what they did to succeed.
I am primarily interested in the ai lab at UT Austin, which is much better than what my university has. In addition, I have been a bit miserable at my uni and was hoping that a change of scenery might help with that.
