I am Asian - Will I face racism here?

I have been warned by minorities at Lehigh NOT to come here

One minority described it as "Hell on Earth for a minority"

I see that the Asian population is only 6% and that really concerns me

please be honest

Are you ugly? Are you a dork? Do you have a LOT of friends? Do you have a grating/annoying personality? Do people generally like you or are you one of those people who is so invisible that most classmates will see you in the high school yearbook and struggle to remember who you are? Do you have social skills? Are you cool? Are you fun? Are you funny? Do normal people find you interesting?

Please be honest.

I'm Asian and I'm applying to Lehigh. I was thinking the same thing as you LilWayneFan, but I figure if it's that bad i'll transfer. After all when your smacked/bent no one cares if you're white or black or asain :).

mountain hawk has a point.

if you're annoying, antisocial, and uninteresting, you will feel left out here at lehigh (or anywhere else for that matter).

it's true, lehigh isn't statistically diverse. whenever you're a minority, things will be harder for you. but that doesn't mean you cannot enjoy your time at lehigh as long as you make an effort to make friends.

i would like to ask your: are you insecure of lehigh because of racism, or because you feel you will not fit in? racism exists, but you cannot cross out a school because of it, because as a minority you'll face it everywhere you go. in my experience, the kids at lehigh are not going to be bluntly racist. we are smart kids, we are a lot more sophisticated than that. what we WILL judge you on is whether or not you are cool, whether or not you're interesting, etc etc etc.

i do not want to make generalizations, but i find the most successful asian kids at lehigh tend to assimilate into the greater population. by successful, i mean asian kids who are having a good experience at lehigh. and by greater population, i mean everyone at lehigh. if you're able to be open-minded with the people you meet, you'll find friends who will back you up.

if you want to ask more questions, feel free to PM.
