GPA: My GPA took a hit freshman year and a little sophmore year. I was unfocused and wasn't thinking about my future. Junior and Senior Year I have about 3.8-3.9 UW. Actually, i'm lucky that it was that high because my parents had stepped in after sophmore year and got me some private tutors for basically all of my academic subjects, which helped alot :). my parents are awesome.

SAT: After taking it for the fifth time, my best scores are are 700 M 710 V 710 W. Kind of like my GPA. first time I didn't care at all. second through third didn't put much effort in, then for the last two i got a private SAT tutor and my scores went through the roof.

SAT II: best scores for these
690 Math IIc
720 history
700 bio

classes: honors, pretty tough schedule

rank: unranked

hook: I'm black. my mom's dad was african-american. I created the black/diversity club at our school.

ECS and awards:
main one is diversity club like I said. i got a few other awards and ecs.

essay: i wrote about overcoming stereotypes of black people. I haven't really every been discriminated against (I live in a suburb in NE which has a decent black population and is openminded) but I wanted to use my 'blackness' to my advantage :). the college couselor my parents got for me said it was excellent, so I expect it to help my application.

that is all I can think of now. Ask questions if you want. I want to know my chances at the colleges I applied to. I applied to all of the IVY LEAGUE SCHOOLS. Thanks.

Wow, you're using the system. The whole point of affirmative action was to help underprivileged minorities to get inot tough schools because they came from tough environments. your attitude just reinforces many peopls' opinions on affirmative action and the idea that it should be abolished. Most likely though You'll get into nearly any school you apply to.

i never really considered myself black until I was told what a huge boost it was for college. so i was pushed to create the black/diversity club at our school.

You sound like a punk who is just pimping some possible blackness just to get into college. I don't know what Ivy college urm or other policies state, but if you weren't "black" before, then you shouldn't be considered black now !!!

You should have labeled this thread "I ain't really Black but want to pimp my way into the Ivies"

Hey, that is insulting. I have always been "black." My mom has always celebrated that heritage, so the family has as well. Its just that my dad, who is white, didn't celebrate that heritage, so I was between the two, both black and white. It is like a jewish mom and a christian dad. You are both Jewish and Christian.

You're 1/4 black than, judging by your orginial post. Don't be upset if people react poorly against your thread. Last time I checked, most people who are a quarter african american have never really suffered from descrimination, especially in the North-east. You're using the system in a way it was never meant to be used and there's no reason for people to NOT resent that.

Let me put it this way, I am basically "closer" to my heritage in terms of lineage than most people currently aided by affirmative action (one of my parents is an immigrant). There's certainly a stigma against those who speak with accents, there have been things my family has had to overcome, etc etc, but colleges don't recognize that in anyway. Your parents have gotten you tutors, you seem mildly well off...I dont know, it seems wrong to me.

^^^ It sounds as if you have no real interest in your club...nor any real identification of being black. It sounds like you really are pimping it for all its worth, the idea that your race will get you into college. That is what gsp meant. Frankly, I have to agree with him. I am for AA since I feel some people genuinely need it, but you are just fanning the fire for those against AA. You talk about heritage one minute but said you never really considered youreself black...it's just a contradiction.

I am not trying to be mean...but the way you presented yourself in your first post...makes me skeptical.
