Benjamin Franklin established the Union Fire Company, the Library Company of Philadelphia, the American Philosophical Society, Pennsylvania Hospital, and, of course, the charity school that evolved into the University of Pennsylvania. As they served the larger community of Philadelphia, each institution in turn formed its own community.

Which of the academic communities and social communities that now comprise the University of Pennsylvania are most interesting to you and how will you contribute to them and to the larger Penn community?

What exactly are "academic communities and social communities"? I have no clue what I should write about. Are they referring to specific ugrad schools or clubs in Penn?

when is this due?
ive never heard of this prompt form UPenn before

Due January 1st. This is UPenn’s prompt this year…

bump… can someone help me? Thanks!

I thought this is pretty much an open-ended question to which you can respond any way you like. I was plannin on talking about the UPenn SAS and why I was looking for a liberal arts education, love penn’s interdisciplinary courses, its libraries and facilities, interesting student body… I basically interpreted it as a “why are you applying to UPenn” essay.

It’s “Why Penn”… it just asks for you to name both academic and social things that attract you to penn.

^yeah, in a very long, roundabout way:)

^selling their school.

It’s asking you about what attracts you to the school.
