I am going to die if i dont know..

What are my chances of getting into UCF??

I dont have a good GPA.. GPA=2.7 Predicting my SAT score to be=1600-1850. All regular classes. I go to a pretty decent private school.

More info about me: Iam Puerto Rican, live in Florida, Have 250+ community service hours, going to join some clubs hopefully, very active out of school (not necessarily the school community), i've shadowed surgeons and ER doctors, during the summer i work as a counselor at a christian camp, I play recreational sports if that matters?. Iam going to try to apply Early Action/Decision.

In all honesty what's my chances? And what should and can i do to improve my acceptance chances?

Thank you guys very much in advance for reading this

I’m worried for you… or your GPA. They will probably defer you until you send in your semester grades, but everything else looks good (If you do get the predicted SAT scores).

I’d say the only thing you can do right now is to kick off the year with a BANG. Get straight A’s to try and bring up that GPA, because it might even be lower once they re-calculate it based on their own scale.

I don’t think joining a bunch of clubs now will help, to be honest with you. UCF looks more at test scores and GPA than anything. Do apply early because I think it helps a lot.

That’s all the advice I have to give you. Other than that, good luck!

Btw, not to add anymore stress, but the SAT and ACT is your hope right now. Prep a lot and good luck on it! Just remember that if you get a lower score than what you expected for the first time, you can always re-take it. The good thing about UCF is that they like deferring students and giving them a chance to improve. Even if you do get a decent score on the tests, try to re-take them and get the highest score you possibly can because a few points higher may just land you a scholarship…

Okay thanks a lot! Anymore advice from anyone would be appreciated as well

SAT/ACT seems to be the biggest factor for decisions, I think.

When did you apply? And for what semester?

My friend talked to someone in the university that they are admitting summer 2010 students with a minimum of 25 ACT right now. [25 ACT = 1120-1160 SAT reading&math only] I don’t think you necessarily need a 25/1120-1160+, but as long as your scores are around there, you should get in :)

My friend made a 1040 on the SAT and just got admitted like two days ago for summer 2010.

And I think the OP is currently a junior.

Iam a junior so iam not applying yet. Yeah but what was his gpa? iam gonna have to get a good SAT score to make up for my screwed up gpa =(. How many people do you know with a low gpa that got in to UCF? And anyone have some very useful SAT strats and tips?

She had a really good GPA =P She’s ranked 4th in the class of 251 students, lol.

If you go to the accepted/rejected thread, you will get an idea of how it works because people posts their stats and everything.

If I were you, I’d honestly spend my time studying for the SAT/ACT instead of joining a bunch of clubs. I don’t understand why people get the idea that joining a bunch of clubs at the last minute will help drastically, lol. If you have some extracurricular activities to put down on the paper, that should be good enough.

And you should check out the SAT/ACT threads on this website for tips. But don’t be depressed when you see kids’ scores, lol.

I have a 3.1 gpa and I got in :s 22 ACT/1110 SAT

yeah i might not join a club unless iam actually interested in it lol. K thanks Princess/Mizzxvii. Having a 2.7 gpa taking 6 gpa counted classes for freshmen/sophomore year, then taking 5 classes junior year and then taking 6 classes again senior year, what is the highest i could pull my gpa up to (about) in the last trimester of junior year and one trimester senior year (maybe 2)? It sounds like a hard SAT question lol. But i really want to know if i can possibly pull out a 3.0 if i do really good for the next 2 trimesters and iam really bad at math so if you guys/girls could help me out that would be amazingly appreciated!

To those wanting to enter ucf, a 3.3-3.5 gpa is a good range to aim for. An 1100+ M/R SAT is where you want to aim for there. To the OP, there might still be hope. In hs, I got my gpa from a 2.6 to a 3.3 in one year. Of course this was freshman to sophmore year. It might be harder to do this though if you are an upperclassmen. If you don’t get in, don’t sweat it. Go to a cc, get you’re AA, and transfer to UCF with no problems.

But my biggest advice to all hs students is this: Do your best. Don’t try and “just get by”. If you didn’t do well in the past, ammend your mistakes, and never look back.

I want UCF to be a school filled with the best students and the best academics. If you want to be a part of that, put in the effort.

bummpppppppp

I agree with Mizz- Don’t be discouraged if alot of the scores on these threads seem high. Most of the people on here are parents or overachievers in the first place. After going thru 2 kids back to back entering college, I have found that extracurriculars in general don’t mean much- it’s SAT’s and GPA’s. With an early application, you have a much better chance of being accepted with lower stats. Also, if you are flexible about starting in the summer term, that increases your chance as well. If deferred, then stay on top of the application. Submit anything you can, such as letters of recommendation, resume, mid term grades…ANYTHING to show you want to pursue acceptance to this school. Sometimes persistance pays off. Good Luck!

thanks alongwait! Yeah my gpa is pretty screwed up cause of spanish and some stupid reading program that was joke and i messed around so i got bad grades in a class that i didnt really think counted on my gpa =(, so its pretty much all up to my SAT scores.

Hopefully ill bring up my gpa a little, ill apply early decision and for summer if it does increase my chances (summer can be just as competitive sometimes), and ill try to be as persistent as possible haha =)! thanks

UCF doesn’t have early decision. They have rolling admissions. Apply as early as possible.

bummmmmmmppppp

please give me more answers and replies thanks =)

We’ve already told you what you needed to hear. It’s up to you to make it happen now =P

Best of luck!
