Even though my first choice had not been UChicago, I've really found that it is a great fit for me. Some people around me, however, have really been trying to rub it into me about how I should apply to somewhere else that in their opinion "is better". There is no way I'm going to let them get to me. I am more determined than ever to major in economics at UChicago.

Anyway, I want to say hi to my future classmates. To everyone else who has been accepted and plan to come, I can't wait to meet you guys!!

definitely... Now that I have looked closer, I think Chicago is better too. The undergrad number is half the size, and Chicago is a better city in my opinion.

Well let us not get carried away-
Different people have different thoughts as to what "better" is.
Harvard and the other Ivies are great for some people- it takes a special person to love chicago.

Yeah, my parents gave me a really hard time too when I chose to attend last year... I got much of that same speech... how I could go somewhere "better."
I paid attention to them, but ultimately decided to go with my heart and choose to attend. AND I LOVE IT HERE.

No one but yourself can truly know what kind of college experience you are looking for, so do listen to what everyone around you has to say, but take it all with a grain of salt.

Having said that, the UofC has enjoyed a tremendous increase in its popularity in the last few years (consider that in 1999 it admitted 72% of its applicants). It is already extremely common to come accross students who turned down offers at the schools the people around you considered "better," and I think the trend will only continue from this point forth.

Like Dannon mentioned, chicago is special and it does cater to a special kind of student. As it becomes more widely known in the public sphere, more and more kids are seeing that this is the kind of college experience they are looking for, and I hope that Chicago continues to maintain is unique character so that future generations of Chicagoans can take advantage of its unique environment. Having said that, congrats!!!

I GOT IN!!!! man...that was close, esp. since I stayed til the last hours of the deadline to submit the application, and then the staff at U of C lost my essays. Wow....attention to my future peers, I hope to see you in the fall of the next school year...or maybe at orientation or even better...in the April tours.

Me too. My first choice was MIT though...but yeah. Got rejected. But hey, UChicago was always my underdog favorite. I'm still a little skeptical, so I'm hoping the April overnight programs will clear some of that up for me.
