I am in a comunity college right now....please help !!!!

I am an international student graduated from high school last June and attaining at Mtsac college right now. My major is Dentistry and i took the SAT (1 time) but i only got 900 something. Is it truth that an AS degree can not transfer to UC? What degree (AA or AS) i need to get for my major before tranfer to UC?Does the UC look at (or reqire) my SAT score when i transfer with a AA or AS degree? What should i write in my essay? can someone send me their essay so i can have an idea and do you have any website that give the information about my major?
I know this is a lot of question but because all of this is really new to me. My friend suggest that i should bring all my questions here and i may get the answer. One again thank you all.

If it is a California public community college, graduates actually have priority in UC transfer admissions as long as they have met certain course and grade requirements. Being an international student might add a bit of a complication however.

I would advise you to do two things:

(1) go to the UC admissions website and carefully read about transfer admissions policies at the UC's. Here is the direct link to information for transfers: <a href="http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/admissions/undergrad_adm/paths_to_adm/transfer.html</a> You can also find links there to all of the UCs so you can look up programs.

(2) I would then make an appointment to meet with your CC advising office - they will be able to give you specific advice about your options, and how being an international student might affect your chances.

In terms of writing your essays, there are many excellent books available about writing college essays. You should be able to find them at any bookstore or in your college library. The worst thing you could do is try to base your essay on someone else's -- you want it to be about you. The UC's call their essay a personal statement. Again, all of this is explained above and do talk to the advising office at your current school ASAP.

By the way, I just looked up the Mtsac transfer advising office - here is their online site. I'd advise you to make an appointment with them to discuss your options as soon as possible. They will be much better able to help you than anyone here.

And, one final thing. I just noticed that you say you want to major in "dentistry." I assume you realize that that is not an undergraduate degree in the U.S. You will need to get a 4 year (BA or BS) degree from a college first and then apply to dental school. If you'd like to learn more about the requirements, go to the American Dental Association education website and read up on dental careers and dental education requirements:

<a href="http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/index.asp%5B/url%5D">http://www.ada.org/prof/ed/index.asp</a></p>

I also noticed that Mtsac has a "dental assistant" and "dental hygenist" programs, not "dentistry". These tend to be terminal degrees and may cause issues with your ability to transfer to a UC. Again, the best thing is to make an appointment as soon as possible to discuss your specific situation with a transfer advisor at your current school.

thank you very much Carolyn.....i think i should make an appointment first but i did last time and the lady was not really helping or answered what i was really looking for :( It is truth that an A.S degree won't be able to transfer and fishing for an B.S degree? if i want to be an Dentist do i really need to finished with an B.S degree?
