Senior year -- should I take AP Bio or AP Chem?

I genuinely like bio (I took it freshman year), but it's known generally as the "slacker's class." Next year, the people taking it with me are the unmotivated people of my school. Now, I'm also not really a science person, but I hate the idea of being stuck in a torpid class.

As for Chem -- I love the teacher who'll be teaching it next year, and I know she'll make the class educational and fun. However, my chem grade is only mediocre (though this mp I don't believe I've scored anything under 100). I'm not sure what I'm doing right or wrong, but I suppose there's that chance that I might be competent in chem. I've heard that it's the hardest of the AP sciences, and heh, want to know if I want to take that risk.

My school's policy is that if you take the AP class, you're taking the AP exam -- school pays.

I'd say go for AP bio. Do what you enjoy, otherwise what's the point in the long run? I know at my school, AP Bio is referred to as a "killer course", so I doubt colleges will really know that at your school it is not.

If you really hate the Bio class come September, you can always change your schedule. Just find out in advance whether or not you would need to have completed summer work for AP Chem.

That's funny... in our school, AP Bio is harder than AP Chem. Maybe it's because my AP Chem teacher has reasonable tests with questions that aren't MEANT to trick you... while the Bio teacher does just that.

I was (kind of) in the same position as you. I really disliked Chem, and found Bio very interesting. My Chem teacher strongly suggested I take AP Chem, though... and I now consider myself a Chem girl. AP Chem is so much better than H/other levels. My H class was mainly about learning the math... but AP is good because you concentrate on the concepts rather on getting the formulas down well enough to apply them. I'm biased, though =)

Pre-med, definitely 100% chem...you don't to know biomes for medicine...chemistry is like the foundation of medicine....also at my school AP Chem is a lot easier and AP Bio is mad hard...sounds just like what LesOs said.....I would take chem if I took just one, but both are great classes....

If I were you, I'd definatly chose chem. Being stuck in a class with uninterested students is NOT fun! Having a good teacher (like you'll have in chem) is so important. Even a subject that isn't that interesting on its own can seem fascinating if the teacher is good and enthusiastic.

Aren't both bio and chem necessary for medicine?

Our school is a lot like yours--AP bio is supposed to be an easy A. I took AP Chem, and quite frankly, I found it to be a b****, but I'm not a science person at all. I managed to get through it without sustaining any major permanent damage, but I really didn't enjoy it.

Personally though, I did learn a lot and I know it will help me in college if I have to take a chem course. If you know that the chem teacher is good and that they will be a good teacher, then I think you should go for it. It's a challenge, but really, I agree with flattie9 above me...being in a class with a bunch of people who don't want to be there is a drag.
