Guys, I am in deep trouble ! I am an international student who registered for the Jan 23 SAT, but I now realize I can't do SAT II on the same date. I thought SAT II were one day later, that's why I didn't register for the Dec test.

What can I do? Contact the colleges I'm applying to and explain them my situation? I don't want to lose a year because I already took one off since I graduated early. And believe me I struggled like I never did to complete high school one year in advance...

Please help me ! I'm desperate...

EDIT: I now realize I can take the Feb. ACT test, but since I'm international, ACT with WRITING is offered only in April... I think my head is going to explode !!

You should definitely call up the colleges and see if there’s any lee-way they can make about sitting a later test. However, I think they won’t be too pleased to hear you’ve had a whole year off, and in that time haven’t done any of the SAT tests until now…

The problem you’ll have also, is that the next SAT test after January is March, the results of which come out pretty much after or at the same as most colleges release their decisions. Your best bet would probably be to do ACT in Feb and the SAT Subject Tests in Jan, and hope that colleges will allow your ACT without writing (or you could fly to America and sit it with writing…). The ACT will already be quite late in the decisions process, and as an international with NO SCORES whatsoever for initial consideration, that will be very tough…hopefully you’ll be able to find a way to get around your dilemma.

You may need to take another year off so you can take the tests that you need. That’s not a big deal as long as you use your gap years productively.

First of all thank you for your answers ! Even though they’re discouraging, I prefer sincerity to optimism. However, this is how I’m going to do: I read on the ACT website, that you can sit for the Dec 12 test if there are seats available. I’ll have my shot. If I am unlucky and find out that all seats are taken, I’ll have to fly to the US and take the ACT PLUS WRITING in Feb.

I know this sounds crazy, but believe me I cannot take another year off. Besides, I didn’t have an entire year off, since I graduated in July… however this is not an excuse… I realize it’s my fault not to have taken the tests earlier… Hopefully, there must be a solution to this dilemma.

Any other piece of advice is greatly appreciated !

Does any of you know of a similar situation? If yes, how did you solve it?

Anyway, I’m pretty sure I’ll sit for the Dec 12 ACT test… A bit uprepared, but it is not that hard as I thought.

You should check each school’s website. I know some schools will not accept SAT scores after Dec.

Stefanm: Ask the colleges if there is any way you can compensate for the writing section of the ACT. They might let you submit graded samples of your English coursework/an evaluation from your English teacher or perhaps accept the IELTs, TOEFL or Literature SAT II. I think you’d be best off taking the SAT II in January and ACT (without writing) in Feb. Best of luck!
