I am in love with gwu. Chances?

Thank you for reading this thread! I'll keep it short and concise!

WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?

You are a match, however, you would be a stronger match if you were in the 2000 range on your SAT. I’m assuming that your GPA you listed of 3.765 is UNweighted. If this is your WEIGHTED GPA, all bets are off. I would re-take it if I were you and also take the ACT to see if you can get your scores increased so that you are NOT average on your score, to solidify your chances.

Hi JuniorXCRunner

Odd as it is, I have almost the same stats (some minor differences) as you and I am also from a highly ranked, competitive NJ high school! To top that we are both in love with GWU!

I have a couple of questions for you, a little off topic.

You are interested in applying for the class for fall of 2011? If so you must starting senior year? I’m just curious as to how you are a member of the National Honor Society. I’m not entirely sure how it works yet, I know I will be eligible. I was told that they only accept people who are seniors already.

Who did they have interview you? I’m wondering how you got one scheduled so early - I looked on the online admissions center and the closest they had was October. Im going to try and interview with the admissions rep for our area. Overall, I assumed they asked the general questions (why gwu, what you like to read, ect)?

My SAT score is also 1940 (might be 1930), I’m hoping to get that up in October - taking the ACT for the first time as well next month.

Good luck to you! I hope we both get admitted. I’m going for ED1.

I think that NHS membership varies by school. I’m from Tennessee, and at my high school, you had to be a senior to join, but at one of our rival high schools, you only had to be a junior. I don’t think that it matters all that much, really, though.

Anyway, if you were specifically mentioning that you’re a “gay male from a highly ranked, competitive NJ high school” as a way to stick out or be diverse (I’m not saying that this is your reasoning, I’m just making a statement), I might try to come from a different angle, as quite frankly, there are a lot of individuals at GW that fit that exact description.

Also, I too would recommend taking the SATs again, and perhaps trying the ACT. Some people tend to fare better with one over the other.

Apply early, and you’ll have no problem.

I’m an incoming freshman for GW…

I’m pretty sure (this is just what I’ve noticed) that the school prefers students to be deeply involved in a few different extracurricular activities than to have a laundry list of activities.

When doing your application, just consider putting a lot more emphasis on a few activities rather than spreading them out. It’ll make you seem like a stronger candidate!

I know that at my school you have to be an upcoming junior or senior with a UW GPA of 3.75+ and a weighted GPA of a 4.0+

Aside from some overconfidence, you sound like a match. Remember that there’s thousands of people just like you applying.

Don’t list all your ECs. Focus on a few that you’ve contributed to in the most meaningful ways.

Try to get the test scores up.

(And yes, I would guess that you’d likely get in.)

I love xc and gwu too! <345

Is your gpa weighted? If it is, you might have a couple of issues there. But if not, then that’s fabulous.

Good luck, I’m sure you’ll be fine! Some of this stuff is luck anyways.
