i just got an e-mail today from rice with my pin number. when i checked it said i was incomplete bc my teacher hadn't sent in a recommendation. .... !!!!!!!1

i applied ID .. and the rec is almost a month and a half late...

WHAT DO I DO?????????????????

will they automatically reject me..

omg, please give me advice. i am freaking out.

If Rice was planning to reject you automatically over this issue, which I doubt very much they would do, they would not be giving you this additional opportunity to complete your file.

When you are able to talk to the teacher, or your GC, whoever is the appropriate person at your school, in a civil, nonhysterical manner, which hopefully will be first thing tomorrow morning, ask him/her about the status of your recommendation. Presumably, the teacher has indeed written and sent a recommendation. Ask if the person can provide you, tomorrow, with another copy in whatever form Rice requested it--sealed envelope, whatever. You will then be able to contact Rice, tell them what happened, and take all necessary steps to arrange to get a copy of the recommendation sent to Rice overnight by an impeccably reliable carrier.

Once you've arranged for a copy of the letter to go to Rice, then send your own letter to Rice confirming what you said to Rice, what they said to you, and the fact that you have arranged to send the rec post haste.

If the teacher says that they just never wrote the recommendation, which IMO would be extremely surprising, then discuss the situation with your GC.

Stay calm. The letter could have been misplaced or lost in the mail. Ask your guidance counselor if it would be best for you to talk to the teacher about it, directly, or maybe the counselor should handle it, depending on how these issues are handled at your school. If the letter went directly from the teacher, she may recommend that you approach the teacher directly, calmly, without accusing him/her of not doing it. If all letters go through the college office, it may be best to let your counselor follow up. Let either of these people, depending on who you approach, that you were given your access number by Rice to track your app and you checked on the status and the letter does not seem to have made it into your file yet. They know the importance of this, and they will follow it down for you. Stay on top of it until you get an answer. You can also ask your counselor if it might be advisable to email the admissions office to let them know that you know it is missing, and that you are going to find out what happened, and make sure it gets sent to them ASAP. Breathe deeply. It will get resolved.

i just checked the my app status online and it says they haven't received anything! i don't get it i made SURE everything (including the recs) was sent on time...have they just not sorted everything out yet or wht?? should i call??

Past experience (ED) tells me that they do not update the site daily. Give them a chance. Double check with your counselor at home and send the admissions office an email with your concerns, if you feel the need to be proactive, but don't expect to hear back from them right away. They are understandably swamped right now. Don't panic. Give it a reasonable amount of time before you consider your app missing. How did you mail it? Do you have a receipt? That's one way of tracking that they have actually received it. It is a very tense time, and we tend to over scrutinize every detail of the process. Try to stay calm. I would imagine it is an extremely low percentage of applications that ever actually go astray. Hang in there, and good luck!

For some reason, my teacher's rec got lost in the mail or something. So, when I called them, they gave me a fax number and he just faxed it in. It doesn't affect my interim decision status either.. yay!

But now for the wait... [ahhireallyreallyreallywannabeanowl!]

ugh, apparently my teacher recommendation isnt in either... And my teacher is currently out of school due to heart problems. I have no idea when she'll be back.

They might have not processed the teacher recomm yet. The Admissions Office takes awhile in processing all of the applications plus the additional materials and then posting it up on the website. If it's possible, check with your GC to see if there's any way you can contact your teacher to make sure she sent it in. Also, if she hasn't sent it in, see if you can get another teacher to send in a recomm.
